XS650 master cylinder
« on: July 06, 2010, 10:28:11 PM »
Hi guys,

Weird question but will a XS650 brake master cylinder bolt up to a CB350F hose? Or rather the other way around ...

Thank you.

My question is which type of XS m/c?  My advice would be to avoid the 76 and older, the round ones, due to the extreme difficulty in finding a rebuild kit and if you do they are around $80.  Stick with the rectangular ones from 77 up or check with MikesXS for a modern replacement to the early ones.  If you have a known good functioning older model you are ok but down the road if it needs repair....just be aware. ;)  One more thing, the early models work with a twin piston caliper so I am not sure how this would work on the 350 as I know little about that bike.

One other thing to consider is that Yamaha used RH and LH threads on their mirrors. The m/c's usually have RH threads and your Honda mirror won't mount up without an adapter of some kind.

I have a 1983 XS650 Heritage Special that I'm parting out.

So the other night I was in the garage and I thought "hey, that master cylinder and clutch perch look really clean, contemporary and functional."

So I lifted both off the bike and I'm going to hook them up to my lil' 350.

Another neat thing is that the wires on the master cylinder and clutch perch are on the outside, so the new bars I'm going to install won't have to be cut. The look isn't as neat but I don't like cutting up things because cuts / holes tend to be permanent mods.

The master cylinder and clutch perch are in near mint shape, the XS650 had maybe 8000 miles on it.

Your point leads me to another question:

What do I use to plug up the mirror stem holes?

Some sort of screw but what size / pitch? Perhaps something with a similar head as the rear shock mounting nut (oval and shiny)?

Thoughts / ideas ?
