What Kind of Helmet Do You Have???
« on: May 30, 2010, 02:11:14 PM »
I'm looking to get some ideas for a new helmet (my matte black astronaut bucket ain't cuttin' it).

Thinking maybe something thinner/old schoolish like the old Buco style ones or considering a full face. I'd like to see pics . . . . thx

HJC CL-15, it's a cheap full face, a little noisy but decent vents and good availability.  11k miles on it so far and it's just getting broken in. Works ok in the wet too.

I use an Icon Domain 2 helmet.  It's got great ventilation and the styling suits me.

I have the same one but in bright orange. I like it a lot. Just flip it up at stops to prevent fogging. I mostly ride with sun glasses on with the visor up. I only put it down for rain or the freeway...

I just bought one of these http://www.z1rhelmets.com/productDetails.jsp?catId=2034&productId=8936&rank=100&tree=2026&branch=2028&leaf=2034 and for the short time I've used it quite like it. The shield slips up under the peak.

HJC IS-2 Shorty Large White with the built in flip down visor.  $75.00 from Helmet City, came in two days with free shipping.  I tried one on in a store to check fit then ordered on-line.

When it gets uncomfortably hot out here in the Mojave desert I use my Shoei J-Wing. I find it to be the nicest fighter pilot style helmet I've worn to date in terms of comfort, noise and ventilation. Rather pricey but so far there's been no regrets.

Otherwise I use my full face helmet: Shoei RF-1000

It will fog when the weather is cool and wet. But I've never treated the inside of the shield with anything in 11 thousand miles or so, just cleaned the outside.

any tricks to keep the visor from fogging up at a stop?

I usually open the shield when stopping, it works a little.

I have an Arai Profile in solid white and I love it to tears. I didn't need anything super trick, but didn't want to skimp on something as critical as protecting my head so the Profile felt like a nice mid-priced helmet with nice looks as well. The helmet fits well, light weight, and never had an issue with it. No wind noise at all.

For fogging up issues, the Profile has a small adjustable inlet vent located at the front of the helmet around mouth level, then two inlet vents that are on the top- on the left and right sides of the helmet with two outlet vents farther down on the back of the helmet to help with air circulation. There are also two inlet vents on the visor its self. Worst case scenarios with moisture, I have opened the visor one notch (barely open) and this alleviated any fogging issues.

The visor is also interchangeable with their fancy quick-release system.

To help stop fogging put liquid soap on the inside of the shield and buff it clear

I just bought a new HJC flip face with a smoked internal visor.... drop the visor and you have sun and eye protection and though they say not to you can flip the face shield up and still have a 3/4 helmet for around town.... ( I use it for drinking soda while I'm on the road.... )  Very cool set up and it fits over my glass's

I've got a Shoei RF-1000.
Great helmet, not too noisy but if I know I'm gonna be gone for a few hours I'll pop in foam earplugs for a quieter ride.

Good venting at the forehead, back of head, and chin.  As for fogging while stopped, all full-face helmets do this to varying degrees - I just pop the shield open an 1/8" with the handy little lever and never have problems with it.

Icon Variant.  I love the peripheral and the visor is nice for the sun.  can't beat the looks, and the wind buffeting isn't as bad as one might think!
