Hey all, just picked up a 1975 CB750 F1.  This is my fifth bike and my third Honda.  It's also the oldest bike I've owned - but I've always wanted one of these.  Got a ride out to the burbs, an hour away, and rode her home, even with the scary cracks all over the tires.  PO has been riding it for months like this!  Brakes also squeak like a bastard and have all the stopping power of a freshman girl at a frat party, but I'll get to the bottom of that.  Only other issue is the bike idles at 3 grand.  Fiddling with the throttle seems to help this so I suspect a kinked throttle cable.  Oh and one of the float bowls leaks.  Whaddaya want - it's 35 years old and it cost all of 700 bucks.

To do list:

Rebuild calipers
Bleed brakes
New Rubber
Fix high idle problem

Then we'll see what's what.  Mild cafe conversion?  Throw on some luggage and tour?  Not sure yet.

Welcome!  I'm not far from Chicago.  There are a bunch of folks from the Chicagoland area.

Your bike looks great.  I have a bias toward stock bikes... my vote - go stock!

I have so many thoughts on what to do... seriously thinking about sourcing a different front end, maybe welding on a different subframe and modern seat, turbo, blah blah blah.  But yeah until winter hits I'm just gonna spoon on some new rubber and enjoy the ride.  I was really surprised at how well such a heavy vintage bike handled itself on the road, even with the dying tires and miserable brakes.  The ride is still quality.
