What to do with so-so emblems?? Look ----->>>
« on: October 23, 2011, 02:30:42 PM »
I didn't have an tank emblems for my '76 CB750 so I found a couple of '77/'78 ones on Ebay for cheap.  They were in ok shape but considering that they will eventually go on a freshly painted tank, they had to be better.  The bike will not be stock but more of a cafe style so I got out the sand blaster and shot some black beauty at about 50 psi.  This was plently to remove the anodizing and leave the aluminum with a bead blasted look.  Then I broke out the sand paper and polishing wheel.  Voila:

Looks great, you gonna clear coat it? It would look super on a dark colored tank IMO.

Yes on the clearcoat.  I'm leaning towards a charcoal metalic with silver stripes.

Now if it can a 78k that I am willing to purchase in the lone star state, I might have to the same thing.

I gotta find one first.

I have seen a 78 CB750 for sale on the Omaha CL. He has dropped the price down to 1K and it looks very very nice to me in the pics. Just sayinnn  ;)

Wish it were in Texas!  I would give a grand for it.  Yanno, running and has a title.

Cevan,

You say you blasted off the "anodizing" but it polished out and it looks like from the top picture to be it's original shiny gold color??!?? Are you saying that these emblems are actually a gold colored metal and not anodized? I've been hesitant to try mine as we all know they are scarce.

What compound is black beauty?
As of today 3/13/2012 my original owner 75 CB750F has made it through 3 wives, er EX-wives. Free at last.  ;-)

Whatever it is, it's a coating. Probably not anodizing  The metal is just aluminum.

Black beauty is a sand blasting compound. $8 for a 50lb bag.
