My HF Parts washer mods - (Heat/Removable wheels) - CHEAP
« on: March 11, 2013, 11:33:02 AM »
I cannot take credit for the idea of putting a skillet under the bottom of the HF parts washer to turn the washer into a hot washer, but below are how I did it on the cheap. Also, how to add some cheap removable wheels.

Heat MOD:

I bought an old working skillet from thrift store for $3, cut the lip off and hammered flat. I then took some angle iron I had and cut to length to fit in between the legs. Lastly, I used some 1/2" hollow tubing to cut some spacers. Sprayed some high temp primer/paint on everything and bolted it up. I made sure the angle iron was pushed down as tight as could be so I get the best heat transfer to the washer.

I can also add a second skillet I figured by drilling a 1-2" hole in the center of the bottom of the 2nd skillet and mounting one on the right (the hole would be to allow skillet to lay flat and drain would still be functional) and one on the left for more heat or faster heat up time. With this one only set to 400F it took about 30 minutes for the cleaner to get warm and with the dial temp gauge I can tweak the heat as needed.

Wheels:

I took a pair of old roller blade wheels (the kind with 2 bearings, 1 each side). I too the bearings out and attached a bearing to each side with a bolt through the leg. The wheel snaps onto the bearing for moving around the shop and when I want to use it and maintain it level, I remove the wheels. Rolls great and even with the washer filled it rolls great.
