CB650 Chain question
« on: February 14, 2006, 06:31:57 PM »
Hey all,

Does the CB650 have an automatic chain oiler?  And if so how does one turn it off?

Thanks Chris

Only has one if you have a seal leaking, you might want to check for oil leaks... ;D

Well that was my next question.  I notice some oil dripping off the oil pan so I am going to replace the oil pan gasket.  Is there any other gaskets that I should check.  (The bike was sitting for 2 years before I got her going again).  Any ideas will be greatly appreciated.

Have you double checked to make sure the oil isn't migrating there from some other leak or weep? Give the lower engine parts a good cleaning and dry them and make sure that's the only leak there is. Is the drain plug sealing? Good luck.
We'll all be someone else's PO some day.

Check the shift shaft seal.    Your grab bar ?  I think a 81 would bolt up but the opening seat on the 79 would hit it.  Do you have bar off a 81?  I need one.

I understud what you typed cause I had a few beers and my ears where slurred.
Under that cover is the alternator.   Clean any corrosion off the plugs going to it.
It should be mostly dry in there so you might have a seal going out in there.
If you plan on keeping this bike get a manual.  Good bike to learn on.

My guess would be that the oil is coming from the oil pump.
Pull the left crank case cover off and you'll see the oil pump and the front chain sprocket.

If you have a partsfish.com account follow the "Don't know your part number" link,
go to the 1979 CB650 page and select LEFT CRANKCASE COVER OIL PUMP.

Or go here, donwload part 3 of the CB650z parts manual and look at page 10.

I would attach it but the server said it was too big. (2.3Mb)
It's not all in English but you can make out the part names.
