1969 Honda CB VERY RARE SANDCAST with 447 orig miles
« on: July 13, 2010, 11:18:33 AM »

I don't recall seeing anyone mentioning this but if so, never mind. The 400 mile sand cast that was at 25000 this morning is now at 28000 on ebay. Geeeesh!

Jeez...that was a close one.  Normally, one doesn't even joke about that around here...

Oh I see now. It's from that World motorcycles guy. He wants 30 grand for his plain old sand cast restorations. Can't imagine what the reserve on this one must be. I'm going into the garage and set my odometer to 447.

Finally, the reserve has been met. I think I'm going to be ill. Bids are in multiples of 5k ea.

I'm going to say $48,500.  I have no idea what a sandcast is or what one is worth, BTW.  LOL.

I'm gonna go with $38800.00

I like how someone bid it up just to find the reserve and backed out.

Arghh... I'm gonna bust on this one, aren't I?

However, if Honda USA wants it for their lobby, all bets are off.  I could easily justify a $75k expense, or more, for a piece like this at a corporate level.
Take care,
David

Terry from Oz has this posted in the Open Forum (non tech) since 8am. This one of Vic Worlds bikes, he sells several restorations per year at over $30K. Im not surprised that an unrestored in this condition would fetch these numbers.

Seller can reject bids..
ie, if he states no bids by anyone with less than 10 feedback without contacting them first, he can cancel their bids..
Same if he feels they are recreational bidders..

I mean, its a gorgeous bike to be sure, but I just can't justify spending that much money on a bike that I would never ride.

A few years ago, I bought some raffles tickets for the AMA's auction f a Vincent Black Shadow. I was talking with my Dad about how fun it would be to ride it.
He said, "What they would want you to do is just donate it back to their Museum."
I said, "Hell with that. The first stop I would make after winning that bike would be to the DMV!"

"Open Forum"? It says "Everything that has nothing to do with the Honda SOHC/4 motorcycles. " I don't think I've ever been there. Kind of an odd place to post this historic SOHC.

Yeah, I'd donate it back to them...after I've owned it long enough to run it into the ground.  ;D ;D

mycb750k6 , Terry is probably of the thought that the SOHC section is for the technical stuff, and the open section is for the fun stuff like Ebay auctions. Speaking of which, was that blue '71 on eBay that went for $6800 reserve not met one of your bikes? Its from your town. Nice bike.
