I think if someone took the time to kill me with a handmade slingshot, I'd have to respect that. I mean, in between dying breaths and all that. If someone took that much time and effort, I must have done something of import and note.
... you mean like more money than the sling thrower? Or, the >possibility< of having more money than the sling thrower.
You are deluding yourself that you are safe from any manner of weapons. My guess is that, so far, you have just been lucky.
Further, while I hope it doesn't happen, societal breakdowns, such as occur during natural disasters, often lead to the weak being preyed upon by the strong or a roving band of miscreants. If you have food or water or whatever, that's coveted by the roving band, does it matter which weapon they use to deprive you of possessions or, to them, your worthless life? If you're dead, you aren't likely to report them when societal norms eventually return.
Don't judge the good times as a norm for the bad times. And, don't expect that you can remain invisible for your entire life and still live in a community.
