Swingarm Bushings & Wheel bearings

My ride sucks at speeds over 50 and there is some play in my swingarm. I assume its never been changed. I also only have the bike for transportation and no place to store it for more than a day, so I think I have to do this myself.

Is there a thread out there that someone used that was particularly useful?

Where should I order the bushings and what other parts should I replace while I haver her ass end off?

I am assuming that the wheel bearings need to get done as well, so same questions. I have looked at z1 and partsnmore. I am at work so cant really see any pictures or most sites where you might buy things.

I know most people send the swingarms to Hondaman, but I dont have the luxury of it at the moment. I have thought about just buying a swingarm off of ebay and mailing that to him, but thats too expensive for me at the moment.

You really will not know until you get it apart what all you need but you probably need the bushings maybe just repack the bearings if money is tight clean them good and check for any roughness look at the brakes & drive cush rubbers. Have you jack it up and tried to move it around? Has it been bent in a crash years ago? Look at the shaft for any gouges.There are lots of threads here just search I find it better to go to the top of a forum like tip& tricks and search before you start looking in that particular forum. I like partsnmore and DSS or better yet see if you can get the bushings from HondaMan.

I bought after market bushing for my 78 and they were way out of spec, 50 bucks down the drain. Figure new bushing are 60 from honda and the collar thats probably out of spec if the bushings are is another 60 your not far off from a hondaman swing arm with a lifetime warranty. After wasting money the first time my swing arms getting sent to hondaman. but thats just my 2 cents.

If you remove bearings from a wheel (especially bearings this old) you should replace them.
They shouldn't be more than $20US per wheel for some sufficient Chinese or Japanese bearings.

Plus you can get most any bearing at a local auto parts or bearing supply. You can get a sealed bearing to replace the open in most any size...Larry

My bike had the wobble.

Which can be caused by many things...

My old steering ball bearings had a nasty notch.
Replaced them with tapered bearings.  :)

Swing arm swung sideways more than a quarter inch.
I was able to do my bushings on my back porch in a day.
(Another option would have been to replace them with bearings)

In the end I just needed my front wheel balanced to get rid of my wobble.

Oh but it rides really nice now!  8)
