Hey Mick, I've got a set of those MTC (?) 72mm pistons in a box here, but I need some rings? Suzuki GS1100G 3 piece oil rings go straight on and are a nice tight fit, but I need compression rings, (the Suzy items are too thin) any hints on where I can find some? Cheers, Terry. ;D
I was feeling sorry for myself because I couldn't afford new bike boots, until I met a man with no legs.

So I said, "Hey mate, you haven't got any bike boots you don't need, do you?"

How are you mate
Did you have any luck getting the sleeve into the RC block?
The rings I've got for the 72mm MTC pistons are Total Seal.
The part no. on the box is C72MM  and there's a s/load of other numbers
On the box is 2.835 1.5 1.5 2.8 4CYL
Top Groove is 07-24-2008 H
2ND Groove is 201354
Oil Control (3 Pc) is 001803
I can spec 'em up for you mate if that helps.
I know that Jerry has had a lot of positive from these guys. (Ed I think his name is)
http://www.totalseal.com/
There's a mob at Slacks Creek Qld who distribute Total Seal - Ph 07 3808 1986
They advertise in the Just Bikes magazine every month.
Let me know if you need any more help mate.

Yeah, Ed's the man! I sent him my 67mm Abe pistons and he found off the shelf rings for it. They cut and fit my 73.75mm pistons. I also had Hastings here in the States fit my 64mm Yoshi pistons long ago.

G'Day Guys, Mick, thanks very much for that mate, I'll chase up total seal for some rings. Mich, (Mike) Mick in Darwin very generously sent me some sleeves and I've just about finished machining and boring one of them to install in your old RC block. It was a pretty easy job, once I realised that 50 RPM on my lathe was the ideal speed for turning a cast iron sleeve, my very first attempt.

I've turned the OD down to 76.30 and bored it to 71 mm, chamfered the bottom and cut a groove for a copper wire "O" ring on top, beadblasted the block again and re-installed the sleeve. (it's been in and out two or three times this week) Today I'll hone all the sleeves, wash it all in hot soapy water, then paint the block with hi-temp silver engine enamel and highlight the "RC" logo in red.

Then it's going back on EBay. Sadly (and quite surprisingly) I couldn't use your sleeves in my other block, they're actually 1mm smaller in the OD than the ones in my other RC block (with 73mm ID sleeves) so I couldn't use them with my 1060cc pistons. I couldn't bore your sleeves out to 72mm to suit my other set of pistons either, as that would have left the sleeves a tad less than 2mm thick, which I wouldn't be comfortable with. 71mm (1000cc) pistons are available from APE, so whoever buys the "reconditioned" RC block can buy a set of APE pistons, base and head gaskets, and will be right to go.

One set of sleeves that Mick sent me will be perfect for my other RC block, they're 78mm OD and 72.5mm ID, so once again, I'll machine them down to fit my block, and bore them to suit my 73mm 1060cc pistons, then chamfer them, "O" ring them, etc, your block was the "dress rehearsal" for this one. I'll use that block on my engine, I don't want to sell it as there are hairline cracks between 1&2 and 3&4 cylinders, possibly because the original sleeves were too tight in the block. I was assured by the seller that this cracking wouldn't cause it to leak oil, so I'll leave the block alone and just fit the new sleeves and use it, but I don't feel comfortable selling it, just in case it's a dud.

Here are a couple of early pics, I'll post the updated ones of the completed block in the "What did you do to your bike today" thread later today. Cheers, Terry. ;D

Yeah Mike, it's all good mate and there's going to be some nice engines developed from all of this.
Yours is looking great too and good luck with it all.

I did see a price somewhere a while ago mate and they were an arm and a leg.
I think somewhere in the 2500 > 3k range.
They're nice, but the dollar sign is scary.  :o :o
There will be something else available somewhere and a lot more affordable.

Just chuck on a set of 31 or 33 mm CR's Mick, I think they're around $800.00 US from Sudco? Cheers, Terry. ;D

Terry,
Thanks mate.
Those CR's are a lot more realistically costed.
I see Ken at Cyclex has some in the pipeline for the stock frames as well.

CR31's are just a little higher directly from Sudco than what Terry quoted (US$). I got mine for about $75 less through Buzz at Dynoman on 5/15/2010. Sudco is his supplier. PM me if you'd like details.

JMR Stage 4 Cylinder Head.
Thanks a million times Mike.
This is top shelf skill and workmanship.
I'm still waiting for a few more internal components to arrive but it's moving forward.
And I'll add some photos of the Billet Block and pistons below that were posted in a previous thread.
