Lawyers?
« on: July 16, 2010, 12:19:49 PM »
I know, we all hate them and they serve no real purpose to man kind.
My question is, why do we keep electing them to political power?
This is not a left or right political thing, because both sides are loaded with them.
Instead of voting down party lines, why don't we just vote for anyone who has actually had a job and knows what it means to live iwith a budget?
I really think our country could be great again and voting out all the lawyers is a good place to start.

Is that an option?   What do you think?

Yeah everyone hates lawyers until you need one.  Then they're your best friend.  ;)

Actually, the reason lawyers get elected is because they often have the money it takes to get elected.

The real question should be why do we keep electing millionaires to political power?

Why are people surprised that millionaires spend more time looking out for the interests of other millionaires and neglect the rest of us?

The only reason you ever "need" a lawyer, is to fight off another lawyer. And even then, they are no friend. If you don't believe that, just tell them you are out of money.

I have no problem with millionaires,(ever get a job from a poor person?) as long as they worked for it.

Poor people don't bother me.  Poor lawyers do :D

I'm just saying, most every politician has a back ground in law.
Either came from wealth, or hopes to achieve it.
Nothing wrong with wealth, just come by it legally, or more importantly, morally.

Maybe it's only natural.  We are after all a nation of laws, it's what separates us from tyranny.  Not defending them as I don't care for them all that much but just sayin....

Because it takes a lawyer to write a law that can't be abused, or to realize that some other lawyer is trying to write a law that can be easily abused.  The good news is that to really pass an easily abused law, it would take a unanimous vote to get one passed by the public, and we all know that politicians can't all agree on something like that.

Because lawyers are the only ones who mainly run for office. Plus they've got skin as thick as a rhino hide and don't mind being called to the lowest, all the while emptying the public coffers. And they know the rules so they can bend them as far as possible to load their own pockets and not be jailed for theft. And it is theft.

Why don't sharks eat lawyers?

I knew this one was going to fill up w lawyer jokes.  ;D

Anyways, my 2 cents worth; most of the senators do not actually Write the
new laws. They are written by law clerks, other lawyers and corporate
lawyers.

True story:
There was a porn star running for some public office out in California (I think).  Anyway, Jay Leno asked her if she was afraid that going into politics might soil her reputation.   :D

(I may have got the facts wrong (like maybe it wasn't Leno that asked her), but the gist of the story is true.)

What about the K Street think tanks, they get no love?
I am pretty sure they write a hefty amount of ink for those bills.

That would be Stormy Daniels who was running against Repub Senator David Vitter (Louisiana) who had a habit of visiting prostitutes.  I think she ended her run as she found it degrading. ;D

No doubt about it.  If given the choice of hanging out with either a lawyer, a politician, or a porn star, I'd take the porn star (with pleasure).   ;)  The other two can go #$%* themselves.   :D

Actually, the reason lawyers get elected is because they often have the money it takes to get elected.
Which they collected from their clients or "other people" for arguing with other lawyers.

Isn't that the basic purpose of a politician, argue and collect money?
Collect money and services from the people?  Only on a much larger scale.
If lawyers want to "advance", what other avenue is available to them in their speciality?
