CB750 movie sighting
« on: January 21, 2006, 08:39:40 AM »
In the movie "Drop Zone", Wesley Snipes' character rides a '75 or '76 CB750K (later decal scheme and bigger turn indicators gave it away).  Dark red with everything looking factory except it has an UGLY aftermarket King and Queen high-back seat.

Original decals, exhaust, wheels, everything except the seat.

Just thought it was cool to see a SOHC in a '90s movie.

I'm wondering if you paid attention to the engine sound.  Did the sound engineers make it sound like a Harley like they do in every other movie with a Jap bike?  ::)

It didn't sound like a big hog, (no "potato potato potato") but it didn't sound like a proper SOHC 750 either.  I'll be the sound guy went with "Generic Motorcycle Engine #34" sound effect and that was that.

speaking of mr. snipes... did you see "money train"?  so many revs of the dual sport (many of which his right hand was nowhere near the throttle!)

why do producers think they can pull that kinda crap?

ok, but do you think they realize they are not really pulling the wool over our eyes?

the general public... even if it is 50% or so... calls them on it.

maybe that's why hollywood and baliwood get such a bad rap!

true representation would be more effective in my opinion.

I resent, I mean resemble that remark  ;D. I put a King, mini queen on the K5 this last summer to get the wife on the back. The old seat she thought she was going to slide off. Was worth the effort. ;D

terry... baliwood is the india movie scene... often referred to as baliwood... also, often thought to produce about 10 times the amount of movies as hollywood (moneywise and quantitywise)

cannot vouch for this as i've only seen a select few indian movies

course, this could be my indian religious studies teacher talkin out his a$$!

One of the cell phone commercials (I think it is Cingular) has a 750 (looks like a K5). It starts with the father wanting to know where his daughter is at all times. Corny commercial, nice bike.

There's a red CB in The Terminator  ;D

That was a 1971 CB750K1 with an aftermarket mini-fairing (note the rear taillight mount). The first time I saw a CB750 on a film was back in the early 1970s, a movie called "Stone Killer" with Charles Bronson. A bad guy was riding another 1971 CB750K1, brown in color, but with a dual front disc. Interestingly, in a stunt scene, the bike changes to a 1971 CB500 with gas tank repainted to look like the CB750, no doubt used by the stuntman for easier handling.
Remember seeing a 1973 Kawasaki 750 H2 in "Caddilac Man" by Robin Williams.

Oops, just saw the movie "Stone Killer" again and I noticed the CB500 stunt bike disguised as a CB750 is a 1972 CB500 K1 model, not the 1971 K0 model that I thought before, you can tell by the larger tail light.

The best movie for old 70"s bikes is without a doubt..."Mad Max" Too bad they liked the Z1 better than the 750's.

1978 K8 "Frankenbike"

Yes, but they were 1015cc KZ1000s (or Z1000), there's a nice photo of the silver/blue one (same color as the first year of Z1R) with a fairing and tail cone section, a scene not shown in the movie in the Japanese "Screen" magazine back when the movie was made. I always wondered what aftermarket brand of the fairing and tail section they were, they looked British, certainly not from US. Though the original CB750 prototype was tested with a similar fairing.

Mad Max was a typical low budget movie of the 1970's, and the bikes were just whatever the producers could get hold of.

Used Kawasaki Z900's and Z1000's were plentiful and cheap, and very fast. Kawasaki was not involved in the production, and there were a few other bikes in the movie, including at least one CB750. The fairing on the "Goose" bike was a "La Parisienne" item, made by Bertrand Cadart, who incidentally played the part of "Clunk" in the movie.

Bertrand is still alive and well, and now lives in Tasmania where he is the mayor of a small seaside town. I still see some of his fairings at swap meets occasionally, but nowadays they're becoming more popular with people building "Goose" bikes. Here's a little bit of info about Bertrand. ;D

As a young lad, that movie helped set the stage for my love of motorcycles. My uncle rode an early '70s Kawi Z1. I think it is still in a basement in boxes somewhere. (It was crashed badly in the late '80s)

I never have owned a Kawi but if I ever find those boxes.........

I also believe that those movies directly influenced my opinion that "riding in the rain is by far the best method of removing road grime" I hate polishing my bike, not that it doesn't look nice, I would rather just get out and ride the guts out of it!!

Sean Bateman in The Rules of Attraction. Can't remember what model or year, but it was a 70s Honda.
