In Need of Everyone's Opinion - Badges or NO-Badges ??
« on: February 15, 2006, 04:54:14 PM »
Hey ,

My latest , (and maybe greatest) idea for my Project was to put some "Police Interceptor" emblems on the side of my new tank. I think , with the new , fresh , "Suede" paintjob, the emblems will look pretty badass , with the overall theme
of the bike. For people who are un-aware, these emblems are found on 95% of Ford Crown Vic cop cars, and arent usually
in the hands of non-police..

Below are a few pics, to help people gather their opinions. I just snapped them real quick, so pardon the poor quality, but I think
you can get the idea.

So , Do I leave the tank naked, or do I slap them on ?

If you want to look more "Police", put  Honda Badges on the tank and the Crown Vic Badges on the side covers.

Not trying to be/act/try to be a cop in anyway.
I actually got them for free from my buddy at Ford.
I just thought the interceptor badges would be different, thats all...

You are the only one you have to please, try it, if you don't like it, strip the bike down again and start from scratch.

I'd find it easier to vote if I could see a shot of the whole bike.

However, there is something I inuitively like about B.R.s suggestion.  Maybe it's that it seems somewhat more restrained to me to place the "Police Interceptor" badges on the side covers.  More authentic too - even though who the heck knows what "authenticity" means in a situation like this......

I vote for using them, but not on the tank.  Try 'em on the side covers or, if the forks are far enough apart, across the front forks.

Go for it, I was kicking around the idea of using my old Dart "swinger" emblems on my side covers.

I'd go with the sidecover option as well. You think the Ford Heights police would like that if they pulled you over?  ;D

the first thing I thought of was Goose, the motorcycle cop, on the original Mad Max movie.  He was pretty cool until his sudden misfortune.  Not wishing you any bad rides but then again this is not a post apocalyptic time either.  So I would put them on for your own individuallity.  you can always take them off later.

I bought some vinyl letters from www.speedysigns.com to put on my tank after I repaint it. As a biker wedding minister, I'm putting the name of our bizz on the tank!

I'd leave 'em off.  A lot of people in my car club put the interceptor badges on their cars (ford taurus sho club).  We get a few odd stares every once in awhile but no one passes us.  ;D

For people who are un-aware, these emblems are found on 95% of Ford Crown Vic cop cars, and arent usually
in the hands of non-police..

They are very easy for us civilians to get, in fact you could just go to a ford dealer and order them.  I don't like them and I have seen people put them on their impala SS or caprice to make people think they are fast, which they are faster than the crown vics anyway, and I definitely will not be putting one on my caprice since I am against adding any non-Chevy part to my car.  How about a nice SS emblem from Chevy, or a Z28 to be funny. Maybe a the corvette twin flags, that would be cool looking.  Now those are the kinds of things that would look good to me.  A website I frequent for the Impala SS cars sells many different Chevy emblems if anybody would be interested in those.  They even sell that Police Interceptor badge for crown vics.  Take a look through the pages, maybe somebody would see something they like.  Just an Idea.

Keep the opinions comming guys , it is def. appreciated.. ;D

The more and more I think about it , I might leave the badges off the bike all togther.
I saw a hyundai on the way home from work tonight with a interceptor badge on it  ::)
I will most likely run the tank naked, unless I come across something unique...

Why don't you put a thin but wide magnetic strip on the back of them with carpet tape?

Then you could have badge du jour.

Seems odd to me to have chrome or shiny bits on a satin finish, though.

Cheers,

Ditto the nakediddity. No need to booger up a nice, smooth satin finish like that with an emblem. I wouldn't even run em on the side panels... I'd go with satin tank and sides, chrome fenders front and rear, and a silver frame. :D

Good to see another sho owner or ex owner here.  8)

sorry to hijack your thread guys but serious bisnis here... yea, i loved that car but, i couldn't cough up $1,200 for a water pump nor did bending over that far seem feasible.  oh yeah, the $2,200 tranny was a wonderful surprise 3 days after i bought it.

hmmm... i wonder if showing off and roasting the tires thru 4 gears was the culprit (insert sinister smiley here)

although, i really did like the setup of everything.  crossed the country several times never got bored of all the gadgets AND it went really really fast!  (i think another sinister smiley is in order)

I would've sent this way of pm, but I don't want anyone to get the wrong impression of the sho.  1200 for a waterpump replacement is robbery.  Thirty dollars for a replacement waterpump and about 4 hours to rip apart the front of the motor.  And I assume you ejected the diff pin?  A common failure with the differential when you spin the front tires.  2200 for a tranny is also robbery.  Unless you planned on getting a quaife lsd installed.  Even then w/ a 900 lsd 2200 is absurd.

Paul---> Their are "car clubs" for every car on the planet now-a-days.
The Sable, oh sorry, I mean the SHO ,was overpriced for it's performance, and better yet poor build quality.
Those cars weren't worth then what one with 100,000 miles goes for now. The fact that people throw tons of cash
into them to make them as powerful as a stock civic si or some other pocketrocket, is just funny to me.

You have got to be kidding me.  Back in 89 when the sho came out what competition did it have besides a much more expensive bmw?  220 horsepower stock in 89 was alot, it might not look like a lot in todays sportscar worlds but it only took the other automakers 15 years to catch up.
