Red/Black KO-K1 Kill Switch "Button Only" - Yamiya
« on: July 19, 2010, 01:32:57 PM »
Another member and I have been discussing trying to get Yamiya to sell a batch of the KO/K1 black & red kill switch "buttons only" to a member here to offer for sale to SOHC club members. Painting them is not very desirable. Yamiya has the entire switch for sale, but the cost of $103+shipping for the red and more for the black is pretty steep if you only need the button. This post is to find out how many of you would be interested in the "black or red button" if we could get Yamiya to have their supplier send a batch to the USA. Please let me know so we can get a count to try to make it worth their while to ship them. I know cost would be a consideration and who knows what Yamiya would charge per button. I can not even guess. We would have to discuss that with them once we find out if there is much interest.

Picture removed so as not to confuse the two different switches.  ;)

Johnie's talking about the kill switch button for the K0 through K1 which came in black or red. I think the K2 may have also had that type for a while. The later year switches are more common and more easily come by. The 69-71 kill switches are the hard ones to find and Yamiya is having them made. Anyone with K0s, K1 and K2s should raise their hand because this is probably a one time event if it happens at all. You can always have your handle switch anodized or paint it but the kill buttons don't exist - except at Yamiya.

Correct Dave...the button is not sold alone. We are hoping to convince Yamiya to sell us some buttons only. My guess is they will not do it as they would rather us buy the entire switch assembly. But I guess is does not hurt to try.

For what it's worth, I don't think the red and black knobs are interchangable.  I tried to replace the red knob in K2 housing with a black one from an earlier housing and it didn't work.  As I recall, I think the shaft (or the length from the bottom of the head to the groove) is shorter.  Anyone else try this?

That's interesting but they sure look the same. I would bet the new ones being sold by Yamiya are the same. Makes more financial sense. Yamiya has now said no three times but we are still trying to communicate with them. It's as much a communication problem as anything with them and we don't speak Japanese.

Well I think that would definitely help if one of them contacted Y. Maybe one of them will read this thread if it keeps popping to the top.

I don't think it is the shaft length on the kill switch, but the thickness of the housings that is off by a couple millimeters.

I have run into this while trying to switch between controls before.

When I communicated with Yamiya personally, I used a lot of pictures with arrows and comments.

Hmmm, I think you may be right on that one.  It's been a while since I tried it but I remembered it didn't work.

While you guys are at it.....I need a starter button. The starter button for my 550 has gone missing. Pushing a screwdriver in the hole is pretty annoying.

Oh, I thought it was a Mark. Oh well, I thought maybe that guy might have some in's there. Are they that bad at English do you think? We sure are having trouble talking to them. Or, maybe they do not want to understand what we are asking for here.

There English is about as good as your Japanese ;). There is one girl who speaks fairly ok English and she is the one dealing with International orders.

Thanks Andy. That explains it. We just got a reply back that makes no sense whatsoever. Can anyone on the boards here speak or write in Japanese? That may be were we are failing here.

Get in touch with Ichiban (Al Summers). He and Mrs Ichi stopped by Yamiya when visiting her homeland. I asked if he could stop in and possibly pick up the 750 K4 handlebars for me. They still had difficulties communicating but not due to the Japanese language. Ichi does 550 and doesn't speak 750 very well so Mrs Ichi had some difficulty in that sense.

I use Google Translate which is located on my pages under the drop down under "Page" which is between my printer icon and "Tools"
