Topic: Stock (I think) exhaust question

I bought the bike with this ratty looking 4-2 exhaust.  I want to upgrade, but that will have to wait a while longer. 

Last night, while putting on a new tail light, I noticed that the left side exhaust, had already come off on one of the pipes, and was extremely loose on the other.  It was being held on by a zip tie, so I just took it off. Now it doesn't have the part of the pipe where it connects the two pipes, and it looks like a 4-4 on that side, exiting right under the pegs.

Sorry, my vocab isn't on track with these cb's yet. 

Question is, can I just leave that off for a while?  Should I take the other side off too?  It would look better.  The other side doesn't have a baffle....so I don't know how much difference it would make if I just took it off.

It will probably run lean and be very loud.
If you do run it this way, keep the rpm's low. Anything above 3500 rpm's will make your,(and others) ears bleed.
If you have a wire feed welder available, you can weld some large washers on the end of the pipes.
This will give you more back pressure and not so much noise.
You can always drill the washers out to adjust the back pressure and allow it to breath a little better.
