Help! CB350F leaking lots of oil after rebuild???
« on: July 19, 2010, 09:02:50 PM »
Just finished rebuilding my cb350f engine and it seems to have a large leak at a plug directly in front of the output drive (it is a ~1.25 inch round seal that is blocking off a hole in the cases)... I'm not sure what the purpose of the hole in the case is, but the more pressing issue is how to get the oil to stop coming out. Anyone with any suggestions, I'd love to hear them!

Thanks in Advance,
Greg

I can't say for certain because I have a 550, but mine has a round seal in the same place & it's a seal at the end of the transmission mainshaft. Maybe you just need to replace it?

Well, I replaced it, which is the strange part that I'm having trouble with... Should I have put RTV on it, or something? The good thing is that it runs like new... except for all the leaking oil. Needless to say I'm getting anxious/worried that I may have to tear it all down again... I'll try cleaning it up/drying it off, then putting the seal back with some RTV, or something.

Yes this is the main shaft oil seal. 34x9. Correct way to replace this seal is to split the crankcase, as it has a locating dowl as part of the seal. As a temporary fix you could cut the dowl off and fit with Hondabond or similar to hold it in place.
