OK EVERYONE......Here we go. Broke the POS tappet feeler i bought on EBAY. Anyone know where I can get a decent one(s)?

You can order them here

http://www.motionpro.com/motorcycle/tools/category/tappet_feeler_gauges/

Or look for them at you local neighborhood cycle shop.  Get the .002/.003 set and a .004/.005 set.  That way you can set the tappets with the GO/NOGO method.  For the intakes, if the .002 will fit, but the .003 won't, you got 'em spot on.  Likewise with the exhaust, if .003 is a GO and .004 is a NOGO then you're golden!
Can I have a motorcycle when I get old enough?
If you take care of it.
What do you have to do?
Lot’s of things. You’ve been watching me.
Will you show me all of them?
Sure.
Is it hard?
Not if you have the right attitudes. It’s having the right attitudes that’s hard.

AH! Ok, I downloaded another one, I believe it was the shop manual. This one explains the procedure for # 2 & 3. Thanks for the help guys!

Has anyone had any luck timing a sohc with a timing gun? I borrowed a "Inductive timing light". It says to clamp the inductive lead around the #1 Cyl sparkk wire, ground the negative, and run the positive to the battery terminal. I then start the bike. I'm, assuming I would then shoot the timing light into the inspection hole to observe the timing?? Given anyone's experience, should I retard or advance the timing on a 550? Or should a look for zero degrees?

I just want to make sure I do this correctly, so I'm not picking piston shards out of my forehead.

The mark next to the "F" should align with the post groove when the light fires.

Must be at idle speed, or the advancer will change the mark position.
