i thought ide post a little of my semi restored 500,long story short i was looking for something a little obscure here in australia an sl350,i found a cb500 motor in a skip bin i was emptying(thats my job),i picked it up from a school that had cleaned out for holidays,i also found an xr75 motor i sold to a wanted ad for $20,and i left a little yammy two stroke motor behind,,so now im looking for a cb500 to put this in,that took me another year!!this motor turned by hand and was missing carbs and ignition but had a starter,i fully stripped and rebuilt it,rebored ist oversize useing xl125 pistons.ill add some more photos lateri placed a wanted ad in a magazine here called just bikes,and had been to see a lot of weathered incomplete overpriced rubbish and was starting to think this is going to take a while when i got a saturday morning phone call from an old guy on the sunshine coast,400 kay round trip later and i had a complete bike in pieces with keys and tool kit,and a nearly full tank of fuel from 1991,should have seen my wifes face when i got home,,she had been at work.i got the photos out of sync here,i just took everything apart and washed/degreaesed and cleaned again,rattle can painted the frame,new tyres,the motor is already rebulit and now i have a spare.

yeah mick this is the history of my current bike,,but i am after another rolling bike,,i have two good 550 motors,i hadnt spent much time in here so i thought ide have a go.

i had the cases bead blasted and they came up like new,i was fortunate enough to have no frozen or damaged threads anywhere,fork seals and boots,front brake total rebuild with new hoses etc,the chrome came up good,the tank had a respray in its life and was really crazed and cracked but once i spent two weeks cleaning it out and used por kit it was fine as well nice and solid and straight!,new fuel tap,carb kits etc,the list goes on

so this is the first re incarnation of this bike ,i just wanted something to ride and be reliable,new hagon shocks,thats how the seat was in good shape although it had been recovered in car vinyl roof stuff,hard thick and slippery,i got a roadworthy certificate no problems then when i went to register it....they told me it was on the stolen bike list!!long story short again it had been stolen from my seller but recovered the same day,and just not taken off the system,which had been changed three times since then i was told,so after much stuffing about i got it cleared and all is cool,i begin my shake down rides not too far from home and adjust as i go.rode for two years with that faded paint untill my wife said it looked crappy,i didnt mind the fact it looked a bit tired,everything else was new,i didnt care if it got a scratch or two.shortly after this i got new alloy rims and zinc spokes which started to make the paint look out of placehad the seat recovered in a better material,a bit more polish on the engine here and there,finned tappet covers i got in a box of parts,stainless exhaust hanger,hard to believe its the same bike.

Very nice! I need some closer pics of your muffler. Is that a tractor piece? How's it sound?

yeah that muffler is just an automotive type straight through resonator,ive got the outlet stepped down to about 30mm,takes the humm out of it on light throttle and added a little back pressure,,it sounds like any performance thing youd buy,ill measure it up and try and post a short video this weekend if you want,its a love it or hate it look(i like it),im sure its as good powerwise aswell!its running a boyer ignition,an older one like the mk 1 ,ill post a picture of it as well,,the advance is all in the black box and is supposed to replicate the factory curve,,i like it,,ide like it i could remove a little max advance though as im running fairly high compression with the XL125 domed pistons,,i did get the head relieved after 6 months as it pinged a little easy aproaching higher revs going up a steep hill,we get good 98 here with no ethanol. that chrome came up good with elbow grease,the photo does it justice of course.

You can create a youtube.com account, upload the video to your new youtube account then you can copy the videos url coding (you get that by hitting the "embed" button right below and to the right of your newly posted video, make sure you're on the page that plays your video, a dialogue box will appear with highlighted code below the button you just hit, right click the blue highlighted area and pick copy), to post on this site by clicking the youtube icon in the reply section and simply paste the code in between the bracketed portions of the code, the cursor will automatically be there so just hit the "control" key and the letter "V" key simultaneously to paste it in there. I think that's how it goes, haven't done it for a while. It sounds more complicated than it really is. I hope I haven't confused you. Good luck with it!

thanks rick,i can do photobucket so ill have a fiddle later,ill do a few takes sometimes the audio dosent reflect the depth of sound etc.

you tube dosent like my gmail account so it can go jump,,umm as ive posted before it sounds like a nice expensive go faster pipe less the looks and expense,not loud and raspy but has a smooth sound not loud,the sound reproduction via this media is always a bit shonky anyway so i wont bother doing it,cheers.

  Nice to see SOMEONE Else in Australia has a 500/4, I have just finished restoring mine after 2 years and it was worth it. I live in Adelaide and I seem to have the only 500/4. I will see what happens at this years Toy Run, Maybe one will turn up.

gday paulmac,nice looking 500,yeah ive not seen any others here either,i passed a 550 once going in the opposite direction,ive seen 750s though.
