Name That Tank!!!
« on: February 16, 2006, 07:14:06 PM »
Can anyone identify this gas tank, I picked it up from some poor cager (I assume) who labeled it as a 1974 CB650 on Ebay.

What is it, and who wants to buy it?

The seller's partly right- '79 CB650. ;D
As to the question- got any idea whether it'd fit an '81 Yamaha SR250? I could use a good cafe tank! :D

the tanks were all pretty much interchangeable until the dreadful slide into "integrated" body work started - the early attempts are not very attractive IMHO...

so, did you buy it because he said it was a 74?

No, I bought it because the I knew it wasnt a CB650, because I have a CB650 and it dont look like that.  I figured nobody searching for CB650 or 1974 would want it, so I got a really good deal on it.  It is for sale, make me an offer, no reasonable offer refused, plus shipping.

Honda didn't have a 1974 CB650. Looks like the 400 sport model of the late 1970s. (not to be confused with the CB400F)
1969 Honda CB750, two 1970 CB750, two 1972 CB750K2, 1971 CB500, 1975 CB550, 1976 CB400F, 1968 CL450, 1973 CL450, 1974 CB450, 1970 1/2 SL350K1, 1971 SL350K1, 1972 SL350K2, 1972 CL350, 1972 CB350, 1983 CB1000C, 1976 Kawasaki KZ900A4, 1976 KH500A8, 1979 KZ400B, 1983 ZN1300, and so on and so on...

I found out that that same design (with the integrated bodywork Mr Bouncy Boobies... er, Mr. Hondadadada... Um, dangit, can you turn that thing OFF? Talk about distracting! CBJunkie mentioned, referencing that gorgeous hangy-down tab off the tail of the tank) was on the early CB900s as well. Could be either or, I guess.
