Overload
« on: July 20, 2010, 09:46:23 PM »
Now this is what happens when you can't count.
Half ton ute . . . with over a 2 ton load.
It has about 2 tons of concrete blend and 200kgs of bagged cement in the back.
This photo was taken by an unknown person last week on Old Northern Road, Albany Creek, Qld.

If I was you
I'd be worried about me.

thats stupidity, this is what the average driver is like.if theres an accident the place that sold him the goods then loaded it can also be held responsible.it represents a total disreguard of safety.

LOL.
A friend told me a story a few years ago. He was at a building materials supply place, and a guy insisted they load a ridiculous amount of cement on his trailer. They made him sign a waver. As they lowered the 3rd pallet on the trailer, the tires popped, and when the trailer dropped, it tore the bumper off his truck.

Hmm, it would appear that VW Jettas are better at handling serious overloads than Aussie utes.!! :D :D

Mate, I have to agree with you there.
I bought a new ute (same as the one in the photo) back in '91.
5 Ltr FI V8 & auto trans.
It had more grunt than a pig farm but the rest of it was a POS.
Toyota 4wd utes are hard to break and handle the loads.

Went through the exact same thing once when I worked at a landscaping place.  Dude came in with a dinky trailer with itty-bitty wheels on it.  Demanded I put three yards of mulch in it.  Warning, waiver, etc.  Second yard dumped in, tires blew and bumper came off.

Hey, mick7504: I read it in Aussie posts all the time, but what is the definition of "Ute?"

That's right mate.
Ute coming from the word Utililty.
I don't know where it originated from.
It's just one of those words that we grew up with and never questioned why.
Would you guys call it a pickup?
If you scored a chic for the night, we'd call that a pickup too.
This is a photo of an early Holden Ute from about 1958.

If you scored a chic for the night, we'd call that a pickup too.

For us, a "pickup" would be a civilian vehicle with a bed and tailgate (Like an F150, Silverado, Tacoma, etc.)  A sport utility is a vehicle built on a truck frame, with (generally) a fully enclosed passenger body (Like a Blazer, Pathfinder, Explorer, etc) ostensibly designed for carrying people and gear across rugged terrain, but actually used for going to soccer practice and picking up groceries.

Scoring a chick would be a "hookup."

We don't really have Ute's here.  The only one I can think of available to us now is the Subaru Baja, which is basically a 4-door version of the old Brat, but with a bed so short it's almost useless.  We used to have the Chevy El Camino and Ford Ranchero, but it's been about 30 years.

I liked the little Rampage, cheap and fun with a peaky little 4 banger, you could get one for around a hundred dollar payment.

I've loaded 3100 pounds flat stone in my half ton with no issues besides a good squat. We had the axle about 1/2 an inch off the bump stops. When i pulled on the scale at the gravel pit i was astonished i had over a ton and a half in it. We didn't load it so heavy the next time.

I could feel every pound back there once i got it on the road, I never took it over 35.

I really wish GM would bring the Maloo here.

Unless I'm mistaken, they don't make those Bajas any more.  Now if you want to get something new with a truck bed, you have to shell out for a giant thing made of plastic.

depends on the size of the bed, but you're right.
this is pretty much what mine looks like

I folded down the rear seat, cut up the old Bestop top and used it as a pseudo truck bed.  It doesn't haul much but it's fun to drive, easy to park, and carries enough firewood to stack up 1/4 of the garage. :D
