I've never been to NYC, but that's pretty much exactly how I've imagined it.

Well it all depends on which way the wind is blowing. If its a northeast breeze it will smell like donutsgarbagedieselurinesweatnewyorknewjesey.  ;D

No seriously, My shop borders the end of a McDonalds parking lot where the dumpster lives. Well, its been 92deg + for weeks, the F'n dumpster smells like dead animals, the odor runs right through the shop, almost makes you want to puke.

Denver doesn't tend to have much of a smell most of the time, but you damn sure know when it's time for the National Western Stock Show! :-X  Luckily it's held in January, so you don't get heat on top of the smell.  And driving across town on I-70 you get hit with the distinct odor of canned dog food when passing by the Purina factory.

The only times I've been to NYC were in the Summer, and it always smelled like Six Flags amusement park to me.

My recollection from my last trip to NYC would describe it as Fruity Pebbles/dog poop.
Go metric, every inch of the way!

I thought most of NYC was OK in the heat, definitely not uriney like Rome is. Oh but then I walked through Chinatown before garbage collection day - man that was the worst smelling place out there.

I've never been to New York either, but I've always thought it'd smell rather "cosmopolitan", like pastries, good coffee, pizza and bagels. 30 years ago there was a rendering plant on the outskirts of Melbourne (Kensington) and every Friday a god-awful stench would settle over the city. I've seen people "dry retch" as the wind would change and they'd get a whiff, it was foul! I think they moved it out to Laverton because I drive through a very similar stench there, occasionally. Cheers, Terry. ;D
I was feeling sorry for myself because I couldn't afford new bike boots, until I met a man with no legs.

So I said, "Hey mate, you haven't got any bike boots you don't need, do you?"
