My first speeding ticket
« on: July 21, 2010, 03:49:30 PM »
For the first time ever, I paid a speeding ticket today.

Got ticketed for 70 in a 65 zone(he WAS kind enough to wait until the construction zone was over to turn on his lights  :) )

He spotted me doing 79 in a 65( 500 feet before, it was 80 and accelerating ::) in a 55...
I saw the silhouette of a car on the right in the construction area, and dropped the throttle immediately.
Not that it mattered much.

So I feel lucky to only have 55 points and $105 outta my bank account taken from me.

While on the point system thingy, WTF!? When did this happen? Who gave me points, and can I trade them in for something cool when I am done driving?
 ;D ;D

Congrats on popping your cherry! ;D ;D

I got mine out of the way early, when I was 16.  15 over in a 20mph school zone.  Had two since then.  The cop on the second one was really cool.  I was 19 at the time and he got me for speeding on my motorcycle with no motorcycle endorsement, but only ticketed me for the speeding.

We have points here in Colorado, too, but I never looked into how it all works.  I've had one speeding ticket since we moved here, but we're moving back to Texas in the Fall where there is no points system, so I don't really care. :)

I've had a handful myself.  Always in 30 or 40 mph zones.  And usually no one is around, so it wasn't like I was speeding around a lot of people.  But the cops don't seem to care.   ::)  I think I've gotten 4 or 5 in total.

I think the points disappear after two years or so.

I'm still in awe of my Dad's ability to remain ticketless, in spite of his nearly 50 years behind the wheel.  He's 63, but started driving his dad's laundry service truck when he was 14.  And before you say it, it's not because he never exceeds the speed limit, because he does, and from what I've seen it's most of the time.  He's also an habitual tailgater, but has never been in a wreck aside from his one motorcycle crash that only involved him and some gravel in a turn.

There is more to get pulled over for other than just speeding. Here's my story.

Traffic was stop-and-go on I-87 when I noticed the a in the mustang convertable in front of me was steering with her knees. She then weaves over the shoulder line a few times. It must not have been enough for her so she then started talking on her cell phone and the little girl in the car. Not wanting to get sandwiched when she braked at the last minute, I said "F this" and popped onto the shoulder. I saw another motorcycle 8 cars up and creeped up to ride with him, thinking safety in numbers. I pop back into traffic, look to my left, and notice the NY State Trooper. Crap. He apparently didn't understand my safety need of getting away from that lady. I explained why I was on the shoulder, even describing her car and pointing it out when she drove past. After teaching him how to read a NJ license (he didnt think I had an MC license at first), I got off with a "I'll be ahead of you, so stay off the shoulder." I was relieved.

THAT is how you get pulled over for doing 35 mph on a highway. Considering all the speeding I had done on that trip, I know I got off easy.

my xwife was driving a 65 tbird for the first time and was running 85 which she thought was 65.  a state trooper pulled us over and asked her "do you know how fast you were going?"  She replied "warp 15 and a wee bit more." to which the trooper replied "F### that" and walked back to his car and left.

I was just the luckiest buggar for ever, but the wheels have fallen off lately.

They just sent me a statement with all the donations I've made to "the cause" and the points I have left.

I am still ticketless and I'm not sure how, aside from the fact that I can play the girl card pretty well. :D  Someday that luck will run out, and more likely on one of the bikes than anything.  The neon was a speed demon, the tracker is a slug, and the cb650 runs like a gazelle and I keep having to remind it that things like speed limits and cops exist.

hrmm... having done that ride roughly 300+ times, and knowing I have sped 99% of those days.... (I swear working 50 miles away makes you speed habitually)
That's less that 1/3 of 1 percent of the time getting caught for speeding or other traffic infractions.... :)

And Kit, I have that same neon speeding problem, got a '01 neon. :)  (need to swap in that 2.4 litre motor in there soon :) )

The only other ticket I have ever had was when I was 16(am nearly 36 now). I was driving my '67 ford F100 flatbed doing 30 in a 45... with about 20 kids on the back  ;D
The cop thought it was best to pull me over. We were nearly at the party spot at least, so everyone only had to walk 15 minutes or so...

55pts?  Is that a typo, or are you not in the US (or do other states have different rules?)  I mean, here, you only get 6pts for vehicular manslaughter!

From what I have found out I have 195 points (of 250) left.
Never had to deal with this before, so the points thing is still a bit of a mystery to me.

In the US, yet in a different world.  :o
Here in morman-land, Utah.
(behind the mormon curtain even, yes I live south of "the point of the mountain")
You would have to live here to get it...

There is a LOT of weird things I have found unique to Utah, some good, some odd, some just flat out disturbing.

Yeah, but 55?  Your license is suspended at 11 here...how many do you need to lose it there?

Wow i must have bad luck im in my 7-8 tickets but all in cars
had a mint condition subaru brat with 10,000 original miles that i paid 600 for and sold for 12,000 why this person wanted it for that much i dont know. but it lead me into a honda s2000 for my second first car, i only drove the brat for a week. Needless to say the s2000 was deeded to my father because i got 5 tickets the first year. Most recently i got a wreckless driving ticket knocked down from a hit and run " i was parallel parked and bumped the car behind when pulling out and they decided that it was a hit and run" LUCKLY i got it knocked down to 8 pts out of 12 soo no more tickets for me this year.

Within two months of bringing home my new rsx, I was in front of a judge on two misdemeanor speeding tickets. (105, 110) thank god for lawyers. (Isn't that another thread?)

I've had :
Once when I was 16 and pulled out to pass someone at 15 over.  Got it reduced to a warning

2nd was when I went to test drive a Honda Shadow when I was 17, got lost finding the place and missed a construction zone sign. (warning.)

3rd was when I thought I was in a 35 and it was a 25 while on the Vulcan in Ohio 2 days before bike week.  No humor from the cops at that time, paid a fine.

Pulled over in outside of New Orleans for having the nerve to be driving while bald (shaved head) and having NY plates.  Got a "We don't like your kind 'round here" and sent on my way.

Pulled over in Alabama on the same trip because the cop didn't see my reg sticker.  Let go with no problems (except their computer was down, so I had to wait 45 minutes while they ran my license.

Tailed from the the middle of KY up to the Ohio border again on the same trip, but they pulled off when I crossed out.

So what exactly does a lawyer say to a judge to get you out of those...?   ???
