First off thanks in advance for any help.
I have a K5 tank that I am repainting. I went and got some color matched paint today for it. The color is planet blue metallic so there isn't really a candy undercoat. Here's the deal, my decals are in great condition, like really good, so I want to save them. Problem is that I'm trying to figure out where I should tape off the decal. If you look at this picture:

There is a clear border on the decal that extends past the colored edge. It is like 1/4 inch thick. I'm trying to figure out whether or not I should just tape off the colored part of the decal and paint over it or whether or not I should try to perform some minor surgery and cut the clear part of the decal. The paint I got is not a 100% match, it's pretty darn close though. I thought of just taping over the clear part of the decal too but I think the color difference would be noticeable. If I just tape the colored part of the decal, can I paint over the clear part? I'm looking for some suggestions. I've never repainted a tank trying to reuse the decals. Thanks so much for your help.
