A Resurrection
« on: July 25, 2010, 01:29:12 AM »
Hi Folks,

My name is Michael.  I've owned a '77 550K for about 15 years.

Bought it when I was 16 and rode it for a couple of years.  Having no appreciation for it at the time, and having no business owning a classic bike, I parked it underneath a tree when I went into the Air Force.  When I came back after 10 years it was covered in vines and locked up solid.

Needless to say, it's in a sad state and I have a lot of work ahead of me.  I've never been able to bring myself to sell it, and it shames/berates me whenever I look at it, so it's time to bring it back to life.

I've been lurking on this forum off and on for a while now - there seems to be a lot of good people here with a wealth of knowledge that is happily shared.  Thank you all in advance.

I'll take full advantage of the search engine whenever I have a question, and probably won't post much unless I'm drinking.  Nevertheless, I'm very pleased to be here and am looking forward to getting to know you all.

Welcome to the forum mate, you've committed a mortal sin by parking a good bike under a tree for 10 years, but you can atone by doing a thorough rebuild, and regularly posting pics of your progress! Cheers, Terry. ;D
I was feeling sorry for myself because I couldn't afford new bike boots, until I met a man with no legs.

So I said, "Hey mate, you haven't got any bike boots you don't need, do you?"

"Crazy is a very misunderstood term, it's a fine line that some of us can lean over and still keep our balance" (thanks RB550Four)

Phehe...stupid mistakes made by a silly kid.

I'm amazed by how clean the bottom-end looks.  Sure the exhausts are clogged by rat's nests, and the intake as well, but all considered it's not too bad.

Aw heck, who am I kidding?  This poor thing is one leg short of an amputee.

Thanks for the warm welcome Terry.  I met a few of your countrymen in Oregon this summer.  I rather enjoyed insisting that "Flight of the Conchords" were Australian!  It was all in good fun...they thought I was from Texas.

I'll make it a point to post a thread of the whole ordeal, bike included.
