Author Topic: After 12 years of silence a 1975 CB750 sings again! (Read 2424 times)

I never get tired of bringing an old CB750 back to life. This one sat for 5 years before I bought it, then sat 7 years in my garage. I stored it right, reset the valves, rebuilt the carbs, new points,etc. etc. The initial start up blew out some smoke (I had Marvel Mystery Oil in the cylinders) I let it warm up for a few minutes then changed the oil and it runs and idles pretty darn good! Can't drive it because I have to rebuild the master cylinder and put a chain on (I'll do that tomorrow). If it gets all the gears and stops good then I'll rebuild the front end (seals , springs and polishing) new tires and WAH LAH the new daily driver!

Ah nice there ZZ. Nothing like the sound of a 750 early in the morning. Looks like a great rider too. Little hard on the butt, but you will get used to it.

Good looking 75 CB750. What was the reason for letting it sit in your garage for 7 years? Just wondering.

Hey ZZPete nicely done congrats!

I'm also in "Crook" county and working on a 75 750K just got it to fire this weekend now working on idling and easier starting....if can both manage to get them on the road soon then maybe we can meet for a ride

Sounds great Mister Mayor. I put it together just enough to run it. I have to rebuild the front end, new chain and sprockets, tires too and I should be ready!

Nothing beats those first moments when the switch goes on and the lights go on like the nervous system has the life force....then if you can kick it over, hooozaa! Great you got her going. Love the color- candy blue green? That's what I painted my 750 this past winter.

Its Planet Blue Metallic, the original paint. The tanks off my old 75.

Took the 1975 CB750 resurrection project out for a ride today. The bike accelerates really well! It needs tires in a bad way so I couldn't take it up to 70mph, but it rides real nice at 55mph. It has a set of mulholland shocks on it that I think I'm going use on a different project. Once I get the stock shocks and chain guard on there the thing won't look half bad! When I get my tires next week I'm going to take it out for a real shake down cruise!

I thought about it but I think I'm going to leave the paint alone to give it the "survivor bike" look. The rims and chrome have some pitting, the HM341 pipes have rust holes and the tank is faded but pretty straight. I might change my mind over the winter though. You know you start thinking about bronze swingarm bushings, steering head bearings, port and polish, etc, etc, etc. Oh hell your right I'll probably paint it!

Your killin' me ZZ...I like your thinkin'. My K4 orange is still the original paint and the tank is unscathed. I have also thought about keeping it as a survivor and not painting it again. Too bad that candy faded so much back then. I wonder how old these bikes were when the faded paint started to show? I mean with normal use back then I wonder how long it lasted before those fading signs started to show???

Its lacquer so it probably depends on how much sun exposure. I do remember seeing a few on the road with faded paint in the late 80's. A garage queen would probably fair better!
