Furthest Distance Travelled for SOHC4 Friend?
« on: July 20, 2010, 11:56:57 PM »
Okay, so what's the record for distance travelled to meet up with a SOHC4 forum buddy?  I admit that Jona didn't come too far from Haifa to Jerusalem; but I travelled 7,150 miles from Santa Fe to Jerusalem to meet up at Tuvia's Pub.  Okay, I was coming on business anyway (to attend a seminar); but I submit it still counts since we planned to meet up before I left the States.   :D

Jona's bike looks and sounds good.  There were a few scooters and cars in the group by the time I had to leave.  The Israeli crowd are very resourceful, and very welcoming.  The Jerusalem crowd meets at Tuvia's almost every Friday in the early afternoon.  Jona's crowd in Haifa meets later, but he can tell you about that.

I don't know if you'd count this, but six and a half years ago I borrowed a friend's van and drove 1,300 miles from Eugene, Oregon to Denver to meet up with a fellow Greenspun sohc4 message board member named Trevor.  I bought my K1 from him for the massive sum of $200! :)  Didn't think to take any pictures, though. :-\

RODE approximately 2300 miles from Colorado Springs, CO to Gabriola Island, BC one way 2 years ago. Took the scenic route along the Pacific coast from San Francisco. Met up with Sean Condon (aka SCondon) in San Fran, he led us up the coast a way then headed back to San Fran and we continued on to Derek's (aka Seaweb) place on Gabriola. Took more ferries to Vancouver, rode past Whistler then headed back home. 5000 miles and well worth it! 2 great guys whom I had never before met!! I could tell that was to be the case from the forum.

Well now, Derek, if we take it at 100 miles a day  ;) it would've taken about 10 days  ;D Or about 250 miles a day for 4 days. Therefore approximately 975 miles by a more direct route than you would ever take so lets call it 1000 miles plus. I used Nanaimo so how do we calculate nautical miles?! That's gotta figure in somehow!

For no other reason, Mike Reick traveled from Boston to England to meet me. In a weeks time, I'll be making a return visit to Mikes place.
If there could be an award for the longest trip to help a fellow member, Billy Benton (bellcow) would get my nomination. Only a member for a few months, he had worked all day then drove 235 miles each way to rescue my sorry a$$. What a gentleman. 8) 8) 8)

Ya know, I thought for sure Andy would have had something to say about this.  Has he been around?
