lowering stock headlight ears
« on: July 25, 2010, 08:37:22 PM »
any opinions or direction on why i can/shouldn't (and i'm already guessing i'm overlooking something major and obvious) shorten the tube just below the headlight ears thereby lowering the stock headlight position without replacing the ears with aftermarket ones.

i like the stock ears, i just want everything to sit lower.

How much lower are you looking for?  An easy but drastic change would be to flip the ears over and swap sides.

damn, why didn't i think of that?

so that also suggests that there is no risk in trimming the tubes either, right?

If you cut the tubes they will flop all over. There are cheap bolt on ears available.

yeah, but they look like... cheap bolt on ears.  ;) anyone ever put a rubber stopper or something at the top to stop the flopping issue?

The Tomaselli and GBs here look pretty nice. http://www.mikesxs.net/products-77.html#products

You wouldn't have to cut up your stock ears which are worth something if in good shape. But, the clamps would expose the rusty part of your fork tube, you'd have to address that.
