Topic: balance tube?

saw a 79 750 k on craigslist for $500, in WI, balance tube leaks? what is that exactly?

That generally refers to a rubber or plastic tube that is underneath the tank and connects both sides.
It allows fuel on the right side to get to the petcock on the left.

Leaking could be a cracked tube (easy to fix), or a crack in the metal barb/nipple on either side of the tank (a pain to fix).

 More likely it's exhaust balance tube, probably behind gearbox/under swing arm pivot

thanks..i know nothing of 750's. saw the price and i want a 750, but not sure what the tube actually was.  maybe ill check it out if its still around next weekend and i am in that area.

Yeah while kframe is correct that is a balance tube on many models, don't think so on the 750.

FYI You're looking at a DOHC model that's why your post was moved to other bikes. Not a SOHC. CB750 SOHC have no balance tubes of any kind, fuel or exhaust.  IF that leaks its from rust and where theres a hole theres another one hiding.

More likely a leaky exhaust balance tube as per Crazy.

My first instinct was the air forks' balance tube...Honda was big into air caps with a crossover tube at the top of the forks in those days.

Yeah while kframe is correct that is a balance tube on many models, don't think so on the 750.

FYI You're looking at a DOHC model that's why your post was moved to other bikes. Not a SOHC. CB750 SOHC have no balance tubes of any kind, fuel or exhaust.  IF that leaks its from rust and where theres a hole theres another one hiding.

Nice catch.  I was just throwing out a guess.

I agree with the assessment on rust, there is NEVER just one spot or hole.
