76 CB750F rear master cylinder
« on: July 28, 2010, 09:13:41 AM »
have developed the no rear brake syndrome.  Does anyone know who currently has rebuild kits for these or maybe what newer sport bike master cylinder will swap in?  The caliper appears to be fine....no leaks in the system....just no brakes..and they have been bled. Bike is a 1976 CB750F Super Sport.

K&L makes a rebuild kit. K&L part # 32-1458 they can usually be ordered through any reputable Motorcycle shop.  Or you can just buy one online

Still available from Honda as far as I know. I buy from www.servicehinda.com. ~20% discount but the order I'm waiting on had a $20 shipping charge so it was a wash.

Are BOTH caliper pistons free and not stuck? Those parts are available too. No leak past the master cylinder piston! Not sure if this makes sense to me. Hummmm, our rear brake should lock up the rear tire in a heartbeat.

Oh, YES it does!!!!  They over-engineered that rear brake..or should I say "overkill"?

really...then in the 8 years i've had this bike its been adequate at best.  It has always felt soft compared to the 78 CB750F dual fronts i run.  but....no leaks.  and it has no air in it....have had a 12 pound sledgehammer sitting on the lever all day .....it will stop the tire from spinning when in nuetral on center stand...but wont stop the bike out on the road....front brakes do all the stopping.

Seriously over engineered. Probably why the 77/78 have single piston. Too bad it wasn't put on the front. You may consider tearing the caliper down and checking into it. Another issue could be the brake hose. That is NOT available from Honda but aftermarket is out there. Are you close to another 75/76 F that you could compare to?
