Triumph seat on my 78 550k????
« on: July 28, 2010, 10:56:24 am »
Hello fellas,

I really like the look of the thruxton seat with cowl. Just wondering if any of you guys have tinkered with this idea? and if so, how hard was it to make it work? Am thinking about how this might look with one of benjie's tank.

Just looking for some input.  Thanks

I am thinking the same thing on my bike.  It may be too long for the 550 (i have the same model same year as you).  i know randakk put one on his GL1000.

I like that gb seat! Can I throw my girl on the back? or is the cowl just for show? I like the cafe look, but I also want to be able to take my girl on rides. Are there any more styles like the thruxton out there?

A thruxton seat will not work without significant modification. I actually had this idea, went down to a Triumph dealershiip and they allowed me to fiddle with the seat and see how it looks restnig on my cb's frame rails. It looked bad, the seat pan has a significant upward curve and is also quite wide and long.

It was too far from an even remotely acceptable fit to be worth any further consideration.

Thanks for this heads up! I guess that idea's out the door.

Check out the seats at OldBritts.com.  I used to have the solo seat on my CB550.  You can order it without the logo.  I had to cut the tabs off and it worked great.  It is all foam so you can still carry a passenger.
