Drive sprocket orientation
« on: April 02, 2019, 12:43:07 PM »
1975 Honda cb750K

My drive sprocket has a 750 stamped on one side. Have pictures when I removed it, but it was too dirty to see the stamp. Assuming there is a correct orientation. Seems that one side protrudes more than the other, if only very slightly.

Having a lot of orientation questions during assembly. Don’t see anything in the shop manual on the drive sprocket.

The floating-type sprocket of the K5 is 'omnidirectional'. It seats the same way, either side out. It should be flipped often, like every 5000 miles, for best life. It should also have a shoulder on both sides, which makes the portion on the final-drive shaft wider than the portion at the teeth. Honda did this specifically to reduce wear on the final-drive shaft and the sprocket ID.
