So after my experience with the bike motor eating itself 120 miles from home, it has made me think. If I was say a state or two away when this occured, how would I have transported myself and my bike home? Towing insurance would only pay to get the bike to the nearest town, not a few thousand miles away. Would my only option be to rent a Uhaul and transport it back myself?

Any thoughts or suggestions on this?

Sure it's for sale! How much you ask?? Well, how much are you willing to pay??? Now triple it, that's the price!

My friends uncle used the premium AAA to tow a Triumph TR6 a few hundred miles, the key is to find out how far it is until you can call again, with the premium its 100miles, but you have to cross the state line to be able to call them again.

since you may not have a car/truck(you are on the bike after all) why not rent a cargo van and haul it home that way.  But bikes NEVER break down far from home..... ;D ;D ;D

My backup plan  (if I was really really far from home) was try and get it to the nearest decent size truck stop and whip out the cardboard sign and hope that a trucker was in a good mood and had a lift gate. Never tried it so I dont know how realistic it is but I dont see why not...

that could be a good idea, shenanigans. a lot of truckers ride. I think.

I have AAA. it has come in handy.

I have towed my bike behind a car with a rope before for a kinda long way. not that far, though.

Srust, that's actually what i was thinking, just wondering if anyone had a different/better idea :)

xfactor, I'm not so concerned about a few hundred miles, since my family would come get me  ;D  I'm more concerned with being in say Texas and needing to get the now nonfunctioning and not easily fixed (insert catastrophic failure) bike home.

Shenanigans, I read your NY ride report. Not only do I believe you'd actually try that, I think you'd get a ride with some cool character and write up an awesome report  ;)

I did see a trucker with his motorcycle strapped between the cab and trailer, hope he doesn't jacknife it  :o
