Ha ha, well I'd have to empty my garage to fit the beautiful Dodge in, so how about I just empty my garage into a shipping container (3 running bikes, 6 more in bits, and enough parts to finish them) and send it to you mate? I'll keep my Triumph Rocket III as it's a family heirloom, but you can have everything else! ;D

I don't need to do any more bikes, but when I go in there and see all the current projects/projects to be, I feel duty bound to continue on with them, which usually means trawling thru EBay, the "for sale" threads, Gumtree, Craigslist etc to find the parts that I'll eventually need. And that's why I've got lots of parts, but no money........... ;D

I've bought parts bikes just for one part....
I'll find something cool on eBay and then snowball the project...
It's really a sickness!
What do those shipping containers run?  I've seen lots of people move all kinds of things that way...

Well I really need to start thinking about buying carbs.
So what are my options?
vintage smoothbores?
modern CRs?
how are those RSs working out for people?

Not really sure what the right set up should be for this yoshi motor.  I like the idea of a more vintage carbs but do want the motor to actually work....
so what do you guys think?

Well I'm gonna upset the apple cart here and say that I don't like CR's. There, I said it and I don't care who shouts me down. I bought a shiny new set of 29mm CR's for my K1 with it's hotrod 836cc engine, JMR stage 3 head, Megacycle 125/75 cam, etc etc, and it ran like #$%*.

I tried every needle position possible and I just couldn't get it right. And the stupid idle screw arrangement that you can't access without removing the tank is just dumb. (how handy is that? You gotta remove the tank to adjust the idle?)

I took them off, installed a freshly rebuilt set of original carbs with one of Brian's (Tintops) filtered stacks setups and bigger mains, and it runs better than it ever did before. Not as cool as CR's, but it worked great. If you could find a good set of Mikuni 29mm smootbores I'd use them, I had a set of 33mm smoothies on my 1100cc Suzy Drag Bike and they were easy to adjust, had a proper idle screw position and worked very well indeed.

Of course, the 32mm CV carbs on my Gold K2 are superb, well matched to my 836cc engine, ultra light throttle, no flat spots, light weight and better fuel economy that any other set up. (not that it's a priority, just a benefit) The carbs were common, I believe, on several later models (including the last of the 650's I think?) but need to be re-spaced to fit. Definitely worth the effort, and would be my first choice if I had to do it again. Cheers, Terry. ;D

You have a link to what it took to make the CVs work?  what year?
I have to say that I have a fundamental hate for CV carbs....or is that just because all the ones that i have worked on had diaphragms that were either a million dollars or NA

I might have a line on a set of used CR31s but they might be to big....
Why are all of the CR29s out of stock?
I would rather not spend $750 on carbs but if thats what i need to at this point then so be it.

Still VERY much on the hunt for a dresda swingarm....


Had to try this stuff and just after a quick use i have to say it works great


Also bought an engine stand to make things easy to work on.
I made one a while ago but now i dont have a welder....really need to just get a cheap one.....
Anyway its wasnt that much money and it fits/works perfectly

G'Day Mate, the 34mm Keihin CV's were from a CBX750 from the 1980's, from memory. I hear you about CV diaphrams, I've seen a few cracked ones on Mikuni CV's from GS Suzuki's, but on the whole I'd still prefer them over slide carbs for the ultra-light throttle, quicker response, and excellent gas mileage. I didn't re-space them, they were on my bike when I bought it, but the seller is happy to do more, he re-spaced my Mikuni 33mm smoothbore carbs to suit a CB750, and for 300 bucks, I'd rather just send them to him than attempt to do it myself.

That's an ARD Mk3 magneto, not as desireable as the Mk1, but an interesting 1970's "go fast" part, very popular with drag racers back in the day. I've got two here for Kawasaki Z1's, but I'd love to get hold of one for a CB750. You'll need some more parts for yours to make it complete, it looks like you're missing the special ARD points cam/pulley assembly, the toothed belt and the distributor rotor, if you haven't got them I'd buy it from you just for the bottom casting, but if you do have all of those parts, it'll be worth upwards of 300 bucks on EBay. You don't need those Dyna 3 ohm coils, from memory you don't need a coil at all, as it's a magneto, like on a dirt bike, so you can run a "kick only" engine with no other electronics. How deep is that treasure chest of yours mate? Ha ha, Cheers, Terry. ;D

Mike Reick and CycleX both sell RS34mm Mikuni's racked for the 750 Honda's, about the same price as the CR's and infinitely more adjustable and they have an idle circuit.

Yup those are them.  I like the idea of the "usability" people talk about with them but are they just flat to large for my motor?
also do they make the sounds that other flat slides do?

CBX750?  dont know if that matches up to anything we ever got here in the states

Yeah the ard set up seems to be missing the fun bits.....I sent a picture to the owner to show him the parts that are missing and he said he will look around but im not really holding my breath.
I know that i dont need the dynas but figured i could use them or sell them on easy enough to someone here.
I REALLY want one of the early ards for my bike but so far no luck....
$300?  are they really worth that much less then the other models?  I just watched a earlier one sell for $700.

we didnt get that here.
was reading that the 85 CB650 had 32mm CVs and the fit right onto a 750 head.
not sure if they are similar or something i really want to get involved in.

As you guys might have noticed i snowball projects...
$200 for CVs?  im also looking at $300 smoothbores to adpot to the 750...then for $500 i bet i can find CRs....damit....lol

Yeah mate, sadly they don't got for anywhere near the Mk1, even though they're lighter and arguably, more reliable than them. They just don't look as cool, and considering that any modern electronic ignition is way better, nowadays it's all about the look.......... ;D

well the guy found some lower gear thing but not the whole unit.
either way its on its way to me.  ill clean it up and see whats what before figuring out if it can be used or just passed on

The frame was welded by hand Fortunately!!! The good days - humans did the welding by hand.

Many of these robot welders they have now have had have work  redone.

I know a welder that has a full time job right now just rewelding pick up truck seats that were welded poorly by robot welding that went south. A major manufacturer too.
