I love my SOHC4 but........
« on: August 02, 2010, 12:54:33 AM »
I've been looking at cruisers, something with long legs for trips that my old 79 CB650 isn't really up to.
Funnily enough I can't find any modern bikes I like! ???
The closest I have seen is this green 1990 Kwaka 1500, I was really hoping to find a younger machine but I guess I'm stuck in a time warp.....the other bike I like is a Kwaka 1500 and it's even older at 1987!
I would never sell my old 650 as I couldn't trust anyone else to look after her the way I do and it took me 3 years to rebuild it from a barn find in pieces so it's full of my blood, sweat and swears. ;D
Some idiot would only buy "Blondie" and try to revert her to a street bike AGAIN!!!...... >:(
I just don't know eh....it's fun shopping but Summer is coming! :o
I think the thing I most like about motorcycling is the speed at which my brain must process information at to avoid the numb skulls who are eating pies, playing the ukulele, applying make-up etc in the comfort of their airconditioned armchairs as they make random attempts to kill me!!!!!!!

Went out to a favourite bikers park-up not far from me, Bury Hill, yesterday and saw a couple of Triumph Rocket IIIs, one of them was done in an attractive black/off white scheme. It had all the luggage and stuff. And to tell you the truth, I actually thought hmmnnn, that looks nice. :o :o
Then I saw another fat tourer, a honda, dunno what model or anything, and as the owner sat on it getting ready to fire her up I thought, you watch, this is gonna be the anti climax of the year, it's gonna sound like a singer sewing machine hahahaha. Instead, much to my suprise it had a lovely thrub-thrub-thrub-blaaarrr kinda sound.

Nice bike Mick, a mate at work just bought a VTX1500 and loves it, might ride out to the local Honda dealers and see if they have any of those new Shadow 750's.
My only reserve is, I'm 105 kilos, is a 750 going to do the job power to weight wise? ;D

Nah had too many bad memories from the British bikes, even the new ones which are a great leap forward can't wash away those horror nightmares. ;D

Hush

After riding only 750s for 15 years I bought a Vstrom last October and so far 7000 miles and counting. Its a bit of a fat pig but good for 2-up and camping trips. Good for a change though dosent have the same "real feel" riding experience of the 750. Its good to have both a modern and a 750 to ride ;)

cheers
Andy

I bit the bullet and bought my first brand spanking new bike in January this year. I have to say it was a difficult decision... the sport bike crouch I'd been dealing with for some time (my aching wrists!) on my SV1000 was just robbing the enjoyment of going for a ride, but I also did not want to lose out on the power side of things too much (cruisers are notoriously "gutless").... so, I compromised, and went for a "muscle cruiser" from Suzuki... it took a couple of rides to get used to the feet forward riding position and the wide handlebars, but the best bit, no more aching wrists or "numb bum". Cornering clearance has suffered somewhat, but I'm happy to say the "grunt" and grin factor is still there!  ;D

That's the Boulevard we have in NZ, not sure I'm keen on the light, kinda looks like something from the movie Alien!
I do hear good things about the power of these bikes though, friend bought a new British bike but two up it couldn't pass wind let alone traffic so he traded for one of those and he likes the power, his missus likes the softer seat and riding position. :)

Whaddya mean? It's beeeuuutiful! The unique trapezoidal headlight along with the cowl is one of the many things that made me go "wow" when I first saw one of these...  ;D ;D

Definitely nothing wrong with the power, two up all day long, plenty of get up and go for car passing even in top gear and 55 MPG to boot, er, I mean 5.5 litres per 100km...  ::) ;)  It has lots of torque, I believe maximum is attained at just 2600 rpm and I have had it up to 170 km/h (on a private road of course!  ;))
