When he goes on a tear, just take a breath and let yourself go blank.  Don't make eye contact noo no.  Just nod.  Nod until the end of a sentence, or something that sort of sounds like it was said with conviction, then go "uh-huh." or "yep."
Don't agree too much, or he'll want you to be part of the conversation.  You don't want that. That requires energy. Just nod.  Nod, and wink.

Then that brings up the "hidden" person. Has anyone coordinated spy efforts with another online member when one shows up a "hidden" person online or would both/all show a "hidden" person? One has a "hidden" and the other doesn't.. Immediately print the online lists and compare? Whadda ya think?! Could the "hidden" person be the ignorer?
