Topic: O-Ring Chain damage CB550

Hi, I have a bad oil leak on my cb550, its been leaking since I bought the bike. I replaced the oil pan seal, oil pump seals and shift shaft seal thinking I was fixing my leak, but I knew shortly after running the bike nothing fixed it. After looking more into it I found that the o-ring chain that was on the bike has worn into the casing and rubber plug and thats where the leak is.
My question is how do I fix this once I get the right chain on this thing. Can I replace the plug/seal thing thats worn? If so whats involved in changing it? Where can I get a new plug/seal? Thanks.

A buddy 'Peterbylt' has a '75 CB550F with a similar issue.  He found the o-ring chain ran too close to his case.  He replaced the wide o-ring chain with a non-o-ring chain.  However, his solution for the leaking case was to first dry the surface/drain the case.  Then, he applied 'marine tex' to the damaged case area.  Marine Tex is often used to repair damaged hulls on boats and I've also used it to repair motorcycle crankcase damage.  It hardens and is impervious to gas and oil.

I was thinking something like that (JB Weld kinda stuff), but if its not much work I would like to swap out the plug.

I think the cases need to be split to replace that plug or the countershaft o-ring seal.

I know. 

If it was me, I'd try to squirt some sort of sealer in around that plug with a syringe and needle, of course, you have to have access to those.  I don't know if an insulin syringe's needle would be stiff enough to get in there.

If you know a nurse or a doctor you might be able to tell them what you're doing and get some 'samples'.

I honestly don't know if it'd work, but dang man I'd try anything to avoid splitting the cases. 

Others here will know more about this.

I think that rubber plug is part number 82 on the end of the mainshaft part 11 in the "Transmission - Kickstarter" microfiche at Bikebandit.

Looks like the right plug, but doesn't look available. To me it looks like if I could get the old one out I could pop a new one in, but I have no idea, I couldn't find any post with the same issue.

There's been posts about this before.

Do a search for 'case damage' or 'o-ring chain damage' or something.
It's in there somewhere.

Also, check www.servicehonda.com for availability, I've found they have some items that BB does not have.
