To my dismay I found out my high and low beams appear too have burned out on my headlight. I would like to know where I can get a stock style replacement for the headlight? Sorry, my search fu has only turned up info about Halogen and HID or H4 upgrades (does anyone know what type of bulb was used in this bike and what the energy ratings were?) I'm just trying to get the least costly replacement that will function properly.

Thanks,

Brandon

im guessing it uses the small round sealed beam,if so,you can use the automotive bulb h4656(i think).you may have to cut another goroove in your bucket, most bikes used 2 grooves and cars used 3,but it wont be a problem

the stock headlight (seal beam) was rated 45W / 55W.  the H4 Halogen is 65W high beam.  the halogen draws to much power for the older 550's, puts it right on the edge (HID is rated at 35W, my solution but $'s).  you should be able to p/u a seal beam from any bike shop (these are 7" vs auto 6").

I checked my clymer and it says the headlight was a 65/50w so the Halogen or H4's seem to be in order, so I may just pick one of those up. I need to double check and be sure it really was the headlight that went out and not something else.

Anyone have any experience with this one?

That's probably a good idea since the hi and low beam don't typically go out at the same time.  You already replaced the fuse?

I haven't had a chance to check much of anything been busy with a few other things unfortunately. I don't think it's the fuse since the low wasn't working and then I switched it to the high and after a minute it was out as well. I will check the fuses though, and I was thinking I'd check the wiring. Can I measure continuity across the connectors on the light to ensure it's really blown?

Thanks,

Brandon
