does anyone know if the aftermarket master and caliper david silvers have for the 500/550 front brake can be repaired/serviced with regular honda parts?i did email silvers and got a prompt and courteous reply and they arent sure/dont know,the master cylinder is advertised as having a 5/8inch bore which goes against the metric grain,i had one sleeved once by a reputable brake service who had to turn up a bronze sleeve as they said it had an odd ball size they didnt have in stainless steel.im guessing the factory one is 14 mm? i should know the factory size but theres too many other numbers crunching in my head.

I have a master from an early '80s Kawi 550, with dual discs. The Kawi parts were made by Tokico, who also made the calipers for Honda.  The master is marked 5/8, and the calipers are marked 1-11/16. (42.7mm, same as my K7 caliper.)
If you were to use a 5/8 master with a single 38mm caliper, such as the 500/550 had, you will probably have to squeeze on the brake lever pretty hard, if the stock MC was indeed smaller. If you find stock Honda master sizes, please share!

i just measured the master piston in a new genuine kit i have and its 14 mm.

If you go from a 14mm master to a 15.9 (5/8"), with the same caliper, you will have to apply 28% more pressure to the master cylinder piston for the same braking force. It is possible that the leverage ratio of the hand lever was changed on the replacement MC to compensate, so as to give the same "feel", but that is only a guess.

yeah thanks scottly,im considering buying the aftermarket caliper and master from silvers,i guess as a set theyll work together ok?if theyre even made buy the same place?
