I am looking to get some coils. Now the place I want to go is out of stock. yeah great. I want to get cb900 style coils. Anyone know of a site that is cheap like under $50 per coil? Not going to bother with accel or dyna, expensive and I use points anyways.

partsnmore has cb900 coils listed at $26 each(currently out of stock...lightbulb in head brightens...."Oh, you probably knew that").

BikeBoneYard is parting a '80 CB900. Coils listed at $25/each and probably include plug wires(bonus)

BikeBandit will sell ya the whole set-up for only $290. Wonder how they got their name.

I have a set of DC8-1 Dyna coils if your interested that are still in the box and have the warranty and everything. They have never been put on a bike and I paid over a 160 bucks for them from Dyna. I would sell them to you for 125.00 if your interested. There made for points. 5.0 ohm primary and 14,000 ohms secondary.

I will check on info for those coils. I am only running points right now so that might be overkill but the 5ohm primary matches good. I will let you know. Gotta clear it past the warden too!

I bought my last set of CB900 coils on EBAY for about $15.  Then purchased bulk spark plug wire and caps from my local dealer. Total cost: $30. Mounted them on a 1978 CB550K3. Also running a Dyna-S ignition system

Gee you must have gotten lucky on that. I never see any coils I want go for that low. How did you connect the wire to the coil? AS I have not seen these coils, I dont know how they connect exactly. i know they plug in but what TYPE of connection.?

eldar,im going to assume the 900 coil works like the yamaha coils i have on my bike.the coil uses a screw on cap to hold the wire in the coil,so all you do is put the cap on the wire then snip a clean edge on the wire and push into the coil and then screw the cap on.

Yeah, they're almost like liquid pressure line connectors w/ a grommet that goes over the line inside the cap.

Beware of getting the cheapo ones, I had one of the screw posts (that you connect the wire to) break off after a few weeks & the place I got them from wouldn't exchange it.  Ate $90 on those f'ing coils.

Can you replace just the wires on a 77' 550F, if so what kind/brand? my local Honda shop wanted 160 bones for a new one(wires and coil), the previous owner had sliced and diced a set of wires into the old ones...

Would coils like these work, or are they too modern?   (ebay item # 4609698349)

The wires are moulded into the coils, so the only way to replace them is to cut-and-graft.  The CB900 coils (and VFR coils that I have seen used on these bikes) have detachable wires.

What kind of spark should you get out of the stock CB900 coils.

CB750 SOHC - 7 to 8 KV - correct?

THe coils have more output that stock. They are a fairly common upgrade even with points. This is provided that you can run your bike in anything besides stock condition!
