What is the smallest van to fit a CB750 in?
« on: August 08, 2010, 11:06:51 AM »
Hey gang. I am interested in buying a car. It'll be my first four-wheeler.   :-X

For me it would be a good idea to buy a van, type transporter, since my CB750 tends to break down a lot. Next to that, I like to do ocasional surf and snowboard trips. Extra storage space is a winner!

Now I do not want to drive a bulk, but the smallest van that would fit a CB750. What would you suggest? Like I said, this is my first car, and I know jack all about cars. So, where to start looking?

I know for sure the 750 will fit in the Dodge and Chrysler mini vans. But of course the rear seat or seats must come out and even after this its still a tight fit.

Well, last fall hoodleyhoo and I got a CB750K6 in my 99 Dodge Caravan. You have to do it from the side door as it is bigger than the rear. I also hauled a K4 in it from Milwaukee. It was tight, but we did it. Then we used the floor seat brackets as tie down anchors. Worked good...not sure you could go much smaller for a van to haul a 750 than this Caravan. Hoodleyhoo has a pic maybe he can post.

We have a Chrysler mini van at work, and i'm sure it would fit a 750. But the amount of gas it uses is ridiculous. Bear in mind that gasprices are insane where we live. And roadtax for these cars is enough to make you cry.

If you want an economical option, I would buy a normal van without seats or windows in the back (grijs kenteken). Sure they are bigger, but you'll get used to parking it pretty fast.

We also have two VW vans, one brandnew and the other 10 years old. Everyone that drives it is in love with the older one. They are cheap to run, I drove it to Italy on one tank of diesel. And they have a lot of power too, they cruise at 150 km/h all day.

Perfect for your surfing trips, throw a matress in the back and you've got a place to sleep too.

Hey man, thanks for the input! What type of Volkswagen am I looking at? The older one sounds good, I have a knack for older cars. And you mentioned het Grijze Kenteken. How exactly does that apply and what are the benefits?

A CB750 will fit in an old Toyota van.  That's what I drove mine from Denver to Oregon in when I bought it.

I used to haul my FZR400 to the track in my Plymouth minivan.  I had to push the seats as far forward as they could go, too far forward for my 5'10", and the front wheel had to go up between the seats.  I'd get a van that was definitely big enough.

ford transit connect -- For the Win!  but used ones are hard to find and they are spendy :)

chevy makes an uplander kitted out for cargo purposes that has that minivan look.  Put some presidential limo tent on the windows and nobody would be the wiser.

I can roll my 650 into the back of my long W/B GMC Safari.  I have to remove the mirrors, release the air from the front forks and then pull them down with a ratcheting strap.  The bike barely slips under the rear A/C.  The bike could not roll in straight - only the angle of the ramp effectively reduces the handlebar height to clear the overhead A/C.

The rear seats are normally fixed to four points in the floor, and these work well for tie down straps.  I then have room on either side of the bike for the two pieces of my homemade 2x4 & plywood ramp.

I hauled many bikes in my Plymouth minivan, but I think
the small 4 cyclinder engine couldn't take the strain. It died.
