Your first Honda....
« on: August 05, 2010, 08:49:19 AM »
I'm not quite sure if this topic is appropriate for this forum but as I stopped for a break while taking a cruise on my 550/4 I started thinking back to where I first started my motorcycle passion and my first bike came to mind. Ultimately, that first bike led to my participation on this site.
I'd just started my first decent paying summer job and had the cash to get some wheels, being 18 I was looking for a motorcycle, much cheaper for insurance.  It was 1970 and I spent most of the summer looking in the newspaper for a bike that was cheap enough that I could also pay for the insurance and take a bike riding safety course. I had a whole $1000 dollars to spend and at that time it seemed like a fortune,I'd already found a riding course for $125 and my fathers insurance company said the insurance would be about $200 depending on the bike..so..about $675 left for the bike, helmet, and jacket. By the last week of August 1970 I had found a Honda, a 1968 305 Superhawk for $475 and the next 2 years were spent thrashing the daylights out of her and getting my best friend started on his love of bikes by allowing him to crash in a ditch on her the first time he rode her..it was only a slow speed drop,he didn't get hurt and neither did my baby...anyway, I could ramble on forever but long story short it was the 1968 305 Superhawk that led to my  having both of my present SOHC 4s and the ones I had in the past...

My first Honda motorcycle was also my first motorcycle.
1984 VT700C, got it in 2003 from my father in law, the original owner.

Doesn't leak a drop of oil, and for 1984 it has some pretty impressive bells and whistles: dual disc up front, shaft drive, burnt taillight indicator, inline reserve tank with low fuel light, hydraulically (sp?) adjusted valves, liquid cooling, hydraulic clutch, air adjustable forks...   Pretty neat really.

Second Honda bike I got for my wife, an '86 Helix.
Now I've got the 550, intended to be her first big bike but she I'm the only one really riding it right now.

My 3rd bike was a Honda ('66 CB72 250cc Hawk). First 2 were Jawas, number of folks never even heard of them. Bought the Hawk after I was sent to Japan in Dec of '67 and bought it that next Spring (2 yrs old and it cost me $250/ 250,000 Yen, bought it from a Japanese Honda Dealer in Misawa Japan.

sadly, I don't know of any pictures taken AFTER I made it MORE MY bike.

Painted the gas tank and fenders a Royal metallic blue, chrome plated the air cleaner covers swapped out the gauges and head light for ones from the (then NEW) CB350 and added a nice pair of GREAT sounding megaphones. 8) Not to mention some work was done on the ol' engine to make it capable of outrunning the 305 Super Hawks. ;)

Got my first Honda last June, got the second early this yr. Started riding motorcycles in 70 on a 68 Yamaha 80. Had a Suzuki triple, a Kawasaki enduro, and a few more Yamahas before getting the Honda. Rode some friend's Hondas along the way....got hooked when I was 8 and Dad took me for a ride on his Dream 305...

Fist bike was not a Honda but my first Honda was a 1982 CX500 Custom I picked up in 2007 and just sold it earlier this summer. It was a very nice bike. Stone cold reliable, easy as heck to work on, and plenty of fun torque.

Mine is the one in the avatar - 1973, brand new...........well was, until I raced, thrashed, crashed, trashed and abused it, then thrashed it some more. It never died (never even had the head off), but was traded for 4 wheels so I could take a particular chicky babe out and let her have her way with me.............hahaha, should have kept the bike eh. ::)
Soon got another bike (while she still had her way, after all, she was only human, hahaha), and this led to a series of Hondas - Cb900, Cb1100, CBR's etc. All great bikes.
She eventually had her fill and left but the bikes stayed.  ::) :D

My first Honda was a 1970 or 71 Mini Trail  70. Here's a picture of me and my second Honda a 1971 SL 175. Great little bike. About the same year I saw the movie On Any Sunday and I've been hooked ever since.

My first Honda was also my first bike - a 55cc Super Cub.  This was in 1964 and it was only the start of when I met some of the nicest people.

Hey michel, At the time of this picture the bike was just about brand new. It was only about 40 years ago, but if I remember not long after this I had a nice little crash that destroyed the frt. fender and completely rung of the gear shifter shaft. What great memories!! By the way that pic was taken in my parents front yard. All thats there now is the exit ramp of a interstate hwy.

Started riding bikes as a kid, but got my own bike in 2003.  A 2001 Leftover Kawasaki 800 Vulcan from the dealer brand new...had been sitting in a box unmolested for 2 years.

Sold it.

Bought my Harley new in 2005

Build a rigid framed bobber out of pieces from NINE Harley sportsters.

Sold it

Bought my current Honda Last December.

Have fond memories of my Dad's 1969 Yamaha 90cc 2-stroke street bike as a kid.

My '73 CB500 is my first Honda motorcycle, but not my first Honda.  I had an '86 Accord, it was a pretty sweet ride.
