Kinda like the Babe thread without the pictures, but more like Man-Laws.
Thoughts and Ideas we SOHC4'ers need to know and should live by.

Post your best (or a few) of your quick Nuggets of Wisdom, so that newbies can be new no longer, and old dogs might learn new tricks.

#1 Folded cardboard helps keep front caliper pads apart when front wheel is off.

#2 Auto windshield washer tubing makes good, cheap, temp carb overflow tubing.

#3 Simple green cleans most parts, well.

Mag wheel cleaner is great for cleaning the motor, spray it on rinse it off.

I use the turtle wax brand.

If your bike is running poorly do a COMPLETE tune-up first. Then, and only then, if it's still not running right come here and ask questions.

If you ever plan on parking your bike on anything other than cold asphalt or concrete, keep a small piece of plywood or a section of old license plate under your seat to put the end of your kick-stand on.

Is the ignition on and does it have fuel (check the simple things first)?

Manufactures are cheap baztards, they don't put parts on just for fun (you probably need that)

When removing parts from your bike to work on it, whenever possible immediately put all nuts and bolts back on the bolts or in the holes they came out of. This eliminates the guess-n-check procedure otherwise required to figure out where they're supposed to go after you've had several beers and are attempting to put things back together.

Never squeeze the front brake when your front wheel is off due to a puncture and you are in the middle of nowhere with no way to push the brake piston back in

Dont forget to hook up the oil return line between engine and oil tank and dont ride off after an engine rebuild with this disconnected.

#1 - It helps to have a bike to go for a ride.

#2 - If looking for a bike on C-list (see #1), don't wait to call if you see "the one". It will be gone (within 2 hours).

Portable sidestand discs are good to have. I had a disc welded to the bottom of mine. Removed enough material from the stand foot first to offset the thickness of the disc.

WD-40 gets rid of oxidation on unpainted aluminum parts. Also breaks down grease, oil, and tar so it can be wiped off easily. WD-40 is cheaper than those highly toxic degreasers, smells better, and doesn't burn your skin. Once you see how easily it breaks down grease and oil, you'll understand why it is a bad idea to use it as a cable lube.
