New Guy, Old CB750K, Hello!
« on: May 06, 2009, 04:53:49 PM »
Hello Ladies and Gents of the SOHC4 Forums!
I just signed up to the forum, and I am super impressed with all the knowledge and kindness gathered in one place! Hopefully I will be able to contribute!

About me:
My name is Robert, and I am 33, male, single, no kids, easy going, artist type, play music, create 3D models for videogames. I have had possession of/messed around with two bikes in the past, a great 1979 Goldwing and a dog 1978 CB750 that was totally messed up by the previous owner. The CB was a total basket case and I could never get it to run right! The frame was chopped and the fork was raked out by an amateur and it seemed like every original bolt/part was removed and replaced with a completely wrong bolt/part, and it's no surprise that I could never get the thing to run decently...

About my current bike:

-1978 CB750k, purchased 4/29/09 from a gentleman in Dallas, TX for $300. Bike started on first kick while attached to a battery juicer, but I have not actually ridden it since the title was lost. I am in Texas, so I am going to have to go through the process to get a bonded title before I can get it registered, insured etc. The bike seems like it's in generally good shape!

What I need to do to get it into rideable shape:
- Clean the carbs -done
- Remove Vetter Windjammer SS fairing - done
- Remove sissy bar - done
- Get new headlight, front turn signals since removing fairing leaves me without them
- Replace the front tire
- Replace front brake fluid
- Probably replace back shocks as they feel pretty done for

What I want to change/do:
- Replace the king/queen seat with more of a stock/flat seat.
- Paint gas tank (probably glossy black)
- Get side covers?
- I want to keep the bike simple and stock-looking. I'm not going for a full restore so I don't really care if the parts are totally correct or OEM, I just want the bike to run well and look simple and original!

I'll post some pictures soon!

where have you been looking for a new replacement seat?  I have a 78 cb750k as well and I'm looking for a good cafe seat.  I like the all vinyl seats that already come with a seat pan and everything pre built.   any suggestions?  thanks!

Welcome Mr Hell!

Sounds like you got a nice project bike, and a good plan.
You probably know this, we love to see pics! [get a photobucket acct]

I'm about 3 hours south of you, near Austin but know the "Flower Pot" area [an old girlfriend lives there!].

You should have no problem getting parts, check the for sale threads on this website and ebay. And look at craigslist for a parts bike [I found a 550 for $75].

Good Luck,
-Steve
