Swingarm Bearing Kit
« on: August 10, 2010, 10:35:24 AM »
So I am getting close to putting my bike back together and I want it to be awesome. I have read some info about Swing arms but until today I did not know about the bearing kit listed below. I was under the impression that the stock bushings are just metal (maybe plastic?)and people upgrade them by using brass? Have many of you used the kit from Z1 (listed below)? Is there a major advantage to the bearings? I need to comb through that MEGA-Thread. The more I read, the more I think sending the arm to HONDAMAN might be the best idea?

The kit appears to replace everything? Is that correct?

I sent mine into him and powdercoated it afterwards and have not regretted it at all- tracks way better now in turns.
Highly recommended.  :)

Couple of schools of thought on the needle bearings. Many modern bikes use them and they were thought (by me) to be an upgrade for our older bikes. But they are steel and the way they mount they won't be watertight I don't think and likely to rust up in a short time. Some think needles aren't the way to go for those types of loads, but as said many newer bike use them OEM. Maybe they are bigger in scale, certainly they seal better. And I don't think there is adequate provisions for lubing, could be wrong.

After much independent reading, besides HondaMan's missives, I've convinced myself that the original design, implemented with top quality materials and care, is the way to go. add to that improved lubrication that HM provides and the lifetime guarantee, that's the way i went.
