Roscoe W. Chandler (Louis Sorin): The nickel today is not what it used to be ten years ago.
Captain Spaulding (Groucho): Well, I'll go further than that. I'll get off at the depot. The nickel today is not what it was fifteen years ago. Do you know what this country needs today?
Chandler: What?
Groucho: A seven cent nickel. Yes siree, we've been using the five-cent nickel in this country since 1492. Now that's pretty near 100 years daylight saving. Now why not give the seven cent nickel a chance? If that works out, next year we can have an eight cent nickel. Think what that would mean? You could go to a newsstand, buy a three cent newspaper, and get the same nickel back again. One nickel carefully used would last a family a life-time.
Chandler: Captain Spaulding, I think that is a wonderful idea.
Groucho: You do, eh?
Chandler: Yes.
Groucho: Well, then there can't be much to it. Forget about it.  ::)

Though it could prove expensive, the dollar coin would be perfect for bouncing off of vehicles that want to tailgate you.

As a Canadian I've been using dollar and two dollar coins most of my life. I can't imagine a wallet full of dollar bills all the time. American money is all green too, makes finding bills way more difficult than just looking for the blue one when you need a 5 or a green one for a 20 for example.

If you can't get over the dollar bill, at least make plastic money like Austrailia and soon to be Canada. It's harder to fake and lasts a hell of a lot longer.

Groucho was the best and the Marx Brothers movies were amazing.

Save them, and when you got a "little red wagon" full tote them off to the bank and trade them in for big bills!

The designers need to pull their heads out and stop making the US coins virtually the same size as the quarter. I would definitely make some coins by making leather belt pouches to carry them in.

Coins? Dollars?...... Credit cards or so form of money card is the future. Look at japan where you can use your cell phone to buy stuff at vending machines.

Interestingly I was just at silver dollar city in branson mo tis weekend and got my first 1 dollar coins.

Ever had a dollar bill kicked back at you because the machine wouldn't take it? The dollar coins might be more weight and all, but you shouldn't get it kicked back because of a wrinkle or what ever. :D  Just a thought. They DO need to be more identifiable though, as has been mentioned. ;)

Actually I guess I forgot to mention we ONLY have the coins now for 1 and 2$. They have taken all of the bills out of circulation so unless you don't want your change you don't really have a choice after all...

If memory serves we have had the Loonie since '96 or 97 and the twoonie prolly around 2000

My most recent experience with dollar coins is this. I was on my way to a Red Sox game and was taking the subway. In Boston you have to buy a pass in a vending machine in order to get through the turnstyle, that's a peeve for a different thread. I put a $20 bill into the machine and it spit out the pass and 14 dollar coins as change. So now as I walk I sound like a big bag of change and my pocket is swinging all over the place. Fortunately I was able to get rid of them all at the first pub we stopped at. ;D ;D

Don't get me started on how wrong it is to be going to a Sox game in the first place!! Oh btw, I am a Jays fan!

Besides that tho I just wish I could go to a pub with $14...up here maybe 2 beers with next to no tip! A draft AT the game, $10....isn't that insane?!?!?!

Hah! Blue Jays...hah!!! ;D ;D ;D All that $14 bought was 2 $6 beers Dennis with another $1 thrown in for the tip. Drafts at Fenway are $6 or $8 depending on what you buy. I saw a game in Seattle a few years ago...affordable micro brews all over the park and really good food and really comfortable seats. Nice place to see a ballgame.

Yeah not to threadjack but I do wanna go get around to see a few more parks. I was talking about an excuse to road trip with a buddy but he hates Baseball. I was thinking Tigers, Cleveland (combined with R&R hall of fame), Cinci, Philly's, Yanks, Mets, Sox etc over 10 days or so with dirt cheap camping type accomodations, cheap outfield seating and all the hotdogs and cheap beer I can drink!

Work/life is too busy for me to go right now anyways...but I can still dream!
