'84 GS550 worth $250?
« on: August 11, 2010, 12:57:37 PM »
A local guy has a '84 Suzuki GS550 for sale. He's moving, so the price is low. He was selling it for $700, but now there is a sign that reads, "$400, but I'll go as low as $250 as is." I don't really need another bike right now (did... did... did I actually say that?), but I figure tha I could pick it up, clean it up, and sell it for a bit of a profit. What do you all think?

I'm flat broke but if it runs, for $250 I'd hop on it.

Owned one in the 80's...good little bike, check the reg rectifier, they can be dodgey,  apart from that they are a good all round bike......go fo it.

I let it pass. My Ducati needs new tires. My wife's CB400t needs work. We have a new baby in the house (two weeks old). I'm sure that I could grab it, fix it up, sell it and make a profit, but I really don't have the time. Besides; my wife bought me a new grill for our anniversary.  ;D I still got something new. :)

Now had it been a classic Honda... that would have been a different story...  ;)

Looks pretty "dated", guess that's an 80's thing. The 70's bikes just look better to me.
With all you got going on, sounds like you made the right decision. [but I would've bought it!]

Well, if it's already gone, that's too bad...dated or not, it looks good (in the pic anyway)an easy fixer and a quick resale would help pay for the babies new stuff, new tires for the Duc, whatever mom's bike needs...kinda funny, the guy sez he wants $400 but will take $250 as-is...does he really think anyone's gonna offer him more than $250? the "as-is" kinda makes you wonder..what does it need for him to sell it for $400? does it run?

If it runs and has paperwork I say it's a no brainer. I missed out on 76 GT550 for $250 that ran! Oh well. I think it's a good looking bike and a future collectable. Like it or not, '80s bikes are now almost vintage and popular models will be sought after. (stock up on Nighthawks!) If you're looking to make a little cash that might be a good bike to do it with. Bring a compression tester and make sure she shifts through the gears. IMO any safe, good running bike that will pass inspection is worth at least a grand to somebody! Good luck
