Holy Grail?
« on: February 22, 2006, 09:40:16 PM »
Found this on Craigs list (Portland), $200, 1969 cb 750.

When I call I hope the seller doesn't have a french accent (and farts in my direction).

"This bike was parked 10 years ago and the vegitation had grown up around it so much that I didn't even know I still had it untill I pulled a car out and there it was. I thought someone had taken it. Anyway I have lost the title but I will give the lucky purchaser a bill of sale. It ran good 10 years ago. It was a nice road bike. I am asking $200. firm cause I need to get my vehicles off the property they are on."

10 years outside in the Pacific Northwest can't be good on a bike (200+ inches of rain a year).

Damn!!!!!! That is a sad pic!!! For $200, it would be a good investment. Hell, you could probably get your cash back by selling the side covers alone!!

Would have been nice if it would have been found in a barn.

This Terry is a bit of a Ghoul. First words is dismantle and sell, not preserve, protect and renew. It may be a plot to make his CB750 the last one in private hands making it astoundingly valuable.   :o

Nah mate, I'm a "Re-Animator", I built my K1 entirely out of parts (all I started with was a bare frame given to me by Geoff Cadden) that I either bought at swap meets, or Ebay, or was given by some of my SOHC4 pals, and I can see that this poor ol' bike will probably never turn another wheel, but is still an excellent donor for other K0 restorers. (bless their hearts, and seemingly bottomless wallets)

Still, If someone over in the US would be kind enough to ship that K0 to me, I'll be happy to attempt a full resto, no worries! Cheers, Terry. ;D

Just checked...removed, I snoozed, I loozed.  Or, something like that.  I'm sure I'll see it resurrected at some future rally...nah, it was probably sawz-all'd and shipped to someone down under.

Good find, Toycollector!  Oregon City is only about ten miles south of Portland, so that must be the same bike.  If it were me, though, I would take off the hard bags and sell them in a separate auction.  It's going to be interesting to see what it sells for this time.

For sure somebody dug it out, detailed it.  Apparently a 1970 model.  Not as much of a missed opportunity as I thought.

So, do you think he might be fibbing? Surely not? Ha ha, I'm not saying anything, he "sold" me a Dyna S ignition on Ebay, and airmailed it to me which was great, but I'm pretty sure I didn't actually pay for it? He he (guilty laugh..........)  ;D

I am the patron saint of lost causes, I aint been around these boards for nearly a year due to commitments elsewhere, but now i am back, I have this to say to you whingers that see this bike as unrestorable, "you wanna see "barn-finds" in the UK where it never stops raining fogging sleeting and the rest"  For $200 this is a steal and should be put right back on the road, what are you afraid of a spot of REAL work?  My god,, This is in showroom condition compared to what we get in the UK.

Those from sunnier areas of the globe that have ten of the worlds most poisenous snakes and funnelwebs to boot are devizing ways of having this away, no doubt for there own australian purposes.
you Ok Terry?

It wasn't a Previous Owner who didnt know what he was doing that messed up your bike, it was The Previous owners mate who THOUGHT that HE did.

You guys can laugh at me if you want... but I don't think its the same bike. On the Saddle bag there is a gold stripe on the E-bay bike... on the Craigslist bike there is not.

Well the seller has read this post, and he hasn't denied it, so I'm convinced it's the same bike. If that bike has been in a shed for the last 10 years under a tarp, it must have been terribly abused before it was stored, ha ha!

If you take a close look at the bike you'll see that even though it's now a lot cleaner, it still looks like it's been in the weather for a long time looking at the rust and corrosion in abundance under all that wd40 and armourall. Don't get me wrong, I'd still buy it, but whatever you pay for it, be prepared to spend a lot more to get it into a nice rideable condition. Caveat Emptor! Cheers, Terry. ;D

Have to agree.  The PO probably just had the hard-bag covers on the wrong sides so the decal wasn't showing in the Craigslist picture.  There are far too many other minute details that are the same for these to be different bikes.

There are about 3 carcases of other bikes out there.. mainly dirt bikes.. Thinking of parting them out to fund the CB project..

All of those bikes were left out there by the houses previous owner. My Ex-Gf (who bought the house) said I could do with them what I wanted to.. She has no use for them..

Unfortunatley the CB is still back there because A) I don't have the room to store or work on it at MY house B) don't have the TIME to work on it C) Keeping my mustang running is enough to keep be busy and tie up funds right now and lastly  D) I don't have any money to throw into it as of yet.. :D

Well the "Holy Grail" bike didn't make the sellers reserve, but he's relisted it now with a "Buy it Now" price of $1600.00, which isn't a bad price for a K0, even one that probably needs a full restoration. If I had any room left in my garage, I actually think I'd bid! Cheers, Terry. ;D
