CR750 / Dick Mann / Daytona 1970 [ ORIGINAL VIDEO ]
« on: August 03, 2010, 10:46:13 AM »
Hey guys ( & girls ???)

For those who are into this stuff, a pretty nice find (imo) while I was scavenging the web for CR750 info a while ago:

http://www.dailymotion.com/relevance/search/daytona+1970

Orginal footage of the Daytona 500 in 1970, five parts in total, make sure you watch them all  ! (turn your volume down for the first 5 secs of every part)

- Look at Mann go at the start; he leaves the rest standing  8)!

Sander

Ps. leave me a note here when you watched it and you liked it; so the thread will bump until everybody interested in this stuff has seen it, and it automatically archives.

Wife's mad now. She walked in on me in the computer room sportin' a chubby and watching this video.

Did you see all the smoke at the start? It looked like they were letting 2 strokes run with the 4's. That was the first I heard of them running extra oil to the top end on purpose, which explains all the smoke on decel at every turn. All these years I was led to believe it was the high-strung engine getting roached.

Excellent post!

In the 1970 Daytona 200 Suzuki 500cc and Yamaha 350cc 2 strokes ran right along side the 4 stroke Honda, Kawasaki, Harley Davidson, Triumph, BSA, and Nortons.  Ron Grant's 500cc Suzuki and Kel Carruthers 350cc Yamaha ran with the leaders until they broke down.

BTW great video, but the quality is terrible.  Bruce Brown should have been at Daytona in 1970 filming On Any Sunday.  I would really like to see some of that footage.  I'm sure it is fantastic to look at and much clearer than Honda's promotional video seen here.

Hi Simon,

do not want to stand in the way of your charity, didn't notice it.
I would like to second therefore: order a hardcopy @ Simons ! ( I just did... )

@ Simon: Besides the mentioned additonal cool stuff...maybe you can also let people know here if your version is in better quality, or in one part without the commercials and such to tease some more buyer.. errr donaters ;D.

Thanks for the donation Sander - the video/DVD quality is not great but it's alright - the next two films, the Honda Factory and the SoCal sunday runs are very good quality though...well worth it for free and the donations go to a truly brilliant cause - thanks very much  ;D
