Is this really for a cb750???

I can't see where it would feed 4 cylinders.

  • Shut up when you're talkin' to me!!
How's it going Adam? Well,by looking at that picture and reading the description, its hard to say what that is!! I seem to recall the name Solex but not related to a Honda motorbike.Maybe a British sports car or something. The guy should have taken better pics and maybe described it a little better.

I think Solex carbs here are mostly used on VW engines. But I saw them a lot on the pick ups and land rovers in Afghanistan. Which must mean there cheap and reliable perfect for a Honda.

I used to have a solex carb kit and a weber cab kit from the 1970s. I forget who made them, the solex kit was much rarer than the webber. The solex ran great but the weber was setup for drag racing and not good for street use. That setup seems to be missing the cast aluminum manifold that is the rare and expensive part of that equation. When I sold my solex setup I got $900 for just the manifold as the carb  needed a rebuild. The weber I got about the same money for and was in 2002. Someone should e-mail the seller and ask that he include the manifold in the auction since the carbs are pretty much useless without it.

Wow.  I am glad I posted this as I have learned something new.  thanks guys!

Mr. Breeze:  Things are going well... the bike has been very hard to start cold for a few weeks now...  Gonna check to see that the battery and charging system is up to snuff.  hopefully it will be something simple and Inexpensive.  IT still runs decent when hot, though.

I graduate from massage schooll in a month and still can't decide where I want to live afterward... thinking now about goign back to Arizona...  tooo many choices...  I want to settle down for a whiile in a place with a garage full of bikes  ;D so it has to be a place where I can afford to rent a house with garage.

  • So, what do ya wanna talk about today?
I just bid on pretty much everything except those carbs, (didn't want to "hose over" my good mate Dusty) I think the manifold is still attached to the engine in one of the pics, if I win the engine mate, you can have it! (but i'm keeping that beeootiful ARD magneto!) Cheers, Terry. ;D
I was feeling sorry for myself because I couldn't afford new bike boots, until I met a man with no legs.

So I said, "Hey mate, you haven't got any bike boots you don't need, do you?"

Well, one thing's for sure. Whoever wned that bike before hand spent a little bit of time and money on it. It would be interesting to dig into that engine and see what's been done in there.

That engine looks funny...like there is half a supercharger setup on it.

This is why I hate Ebay...you get guys selling stuff they don't know #$%* about and don't know how to make it available to the public. This yutz doesn't realize that without the manifold, he is selling a bunch of junk carbs and will never get much for it. Meanwhile he is selling a complete engine with the same manifold and he has people more interested in the manifold and mag than the engine itself (BTW that engine looks pretty hot, wouldn't be surprised to crack it open and find something cool like forged rods or a big bore kit).

OK, don't worry about the local pickup thing, me and my good mate and partner in crime, Sean "Ice-Pick" Condon, who lives in California, are gonna form a syndicate to bid on that engine, I get the ARD mag, and he gets whatever lurks beneath the engine covers.

If Dusty is good and doesn't try to outbid us, we might let him keep the manifold, but I call upon you all to respect the SOHC4 code of ethics, and don't try to outbid a fellow SOHCer, or I'll have to unleash "Ice Pick" on you all, and I shudder to think of the consequences of that action! Ha ha, Cheers, Terry. ;D

(psssst....Terry, it's "tooth-pick" but I can still poke out an eyeball or two :D)

If the "Syndicate" prevails then I'll be wanting the cooler and taking a chance on the bottom end and cam. I'd be happy to slice off any remaining pieces of the pie and ship'em wherever, if we win.

Sounds right to me, I doubt anyone would have fitted the carbs and mag without going for bore/cam etc too. However, if you win it would you dare open it up to find out... sod's law guarantees that the head gasket won't be re-useable and will be a weird size that you just can't buy any more!

Well, someone got through to the guy and the manifold is added to the carbs and removed from the engine... actually I don't see the engine on his list at all.

In studying the old pictures AND the new ones AND what he's now charging for shipping, it appears the manifold and mounting rubbers were already on the carbs and he has added a old cylinder head to the auction, calling it a "manifold". If the "syndicate" prevails, and anyone else on this site wins a part from this seller, I will be happy to inspect your parts when, and if, I pick up the motor.

fine.  The butt head won't let me pick up stuff if I win.  I am practically his neighbor!. Guess he has to make money on the shipping >:(

Scondon... is he treatin' you special?  :D

Oh well don't know if I can afford any of it anyway... just considering some gifts for me bike.  It is a '72 after all ;D

I think his shipping prices may be keeping his # of bids down...  there ought to be more interest in his shiny bits than whats showed...  He finally has his solex listing fixed right.
