« on: August 07, 2010, 10:47:27 PM »
my honda 750 k1 started leaking so popped bowl removed float. float had a pin hole & was full of gas. Orded a new one from honda. The float from honda was plastic. What crap is this? Any one replaced a float lately. If so was it copper or plastic. would like to have a metal float. azporkey

Yah, my K1 had leaky brass floats too. Finally dumped them and put all plastic in there. Had enough of it. No more leaks with the plastic. I know, you want OEM brass. You can get them on eBay or yamiya.com

Hi Johnie, maybe I'm worried for nothing. Were your carbs all leaking? How long have you had the new plastic ones.I was thinking plastic would not hold up. Where did you get yours? Mine were Honda. Thanks for the help Azporkey

Plastic floats started I believe about the 1972 models. I got mine off a parts bike with 4,700 miles on it. I had 2 leaking brass floats on the K1 and decided I did not want to mess with them anymore. I had some problems with the brass on my KO too. I think you would be fine with new brass, but mine were close to 40 years old and I just did not want to have another problem. If you got yours from Honda you will be fine.

Hi again Johnie,I have a very early k1 made7-70  vin 1047858 have17500 on it. Runs so sweet ,new averything on it mufflers tires, tubes rear wheel spokes, plugs, caps. Changed to elec.ignition, rear hub polished. I could go on &on. Caps helped a lot. runs much better. If you had 2 leakers, maybe I should buy a spare. How many miles when it started to leak. Thanks azporkey (I live in Santa Cruz Ca)

Was not the miles that caused the leak it was the age of the floats...40 years.
It was time to change them out. How about some pics of your bike...

John,

Did you have to tinker with the float height any because of the weight difference?
We'll all be someone else's PO some day.

No...just went with the standard height. Plastic or brass they all say 26mm. Runs fine.

you can still buy the brass ones. I love them. They seem so fragile yet I keep dropping them on the driveway while I'm upside down inside out trying to get it back onto #3 carb. My friend gave me two leakers and I soldered them up and they're doing fine. One had a pin hole and the other a seam leak.
